cancer: the chest

a shout to fit in your skull (a happy cure to take fear away), at the place where the spine connects, where the brain stem makes its naive home. food of childhood (the savor caught around the corner). hover back like a hummingbird to the sweet hibiscus flower, the shell, the fragile interior & the nothingness of pre-birth. be a hermit because the ink of darkness is lively. build a house in a week only to tear it down. amends made at a moment's notice. a heavy trenchcoat of responsibility. as the rain falls, you swim against the surging water. you get tender like a clay body. you get soggy like a paper boat. face it. sigh & face it. breathe & face it. Q: why worship at the feet of unanswering bygones? A: because the safety lies in the silence.

Cancer is the chest, the ruler of the heart, which is often its greatest motivator and greatest enemy. Cancers are hyper-aware, making them magnets for those like them and opposites for others who might be less conscious.

my favorite cancer poets: pablo neruda, petrarch, frida kahlo
