Lockdown In Hogwarts- Chapter Four (I)

"I want all of you to listen very carefully. Professors shall take the best fighters along with them to the courtyards, tower heads, and cast protective spells around the castle. Any sixth and seventh-year students besides the prefects willing to help can join the professors, only if they think they are capable of protecting themselves first. While this happens I want the Head Boy and Head Girl to secure the castle wings and remove the spells on the locked rooms." The Headmaster laid out his plans and orders.

As soon as the Headmaster had finished with his instructions for the Head Boy and the Head Girl, they took a quick menacing glance at each other before disapparating. It is their everyday stance. People around them had become undeniably immune to their behaviour towards each other.

One of the major reasons being their difference in houses. Eleanor Brooks, the present Head Girl was sorted in Ravenclaw while Jonathan Lawrence, the Head Boy was sorted in Slytherin. They were unquestionably the best in their years.

Both of them excelled in their studies right from Charms to Potions to Defence Against Dark Arts to Transfiguration to Herbology. They both were apt for the respective positions they held.

Another one being their cut-throat competition against each other. Each one separately always wanted to be the best. Well there, being best comes with dire consequences among itself. This gave rise to bitter rivalry among the two. But they never let this get into the way of their houses nor their studies.

The rivalry in fact fuelled among itself a new desire of excellency. Every time the former one thought she outdid herself, the latter would appear right through the mist to shatter her dreams. This was what kept them going.

Headmaster Howard believed they were like the two wheels on either side of the axle. And for the system to run, they needed to function in perfect harmony. On being selected as the Head Boy and Head Girl of the school, they decided to keep away their disputes for the honour of their positions. But this never lessened their abhorrence towards each other, or so they liked to say it.

Some of the teachers were against the decision of making these two the Heads of the representative council. Not out of hate or anger, but out of sheer trepidation.

They very knowingly believed that the two most persistent students at Hogwarts were like hard rocks, who when rubbed against each other, causes friction. It was then that the Headmaster had made them understand the importance of being rocks. "Even the hardest of rocks mould into beautiful structures over time." the Headmaster had stated.

Also, they were the most tried and trusted prefects amongst all in their years. So it was almost a futile thought to appoint someone else as the Head Boy or the Head Girl. Even all the Professors and their assistants had voted for them to be the Heads of the student council.

Eleanor apparated her way to the floor of the resident towers where the Ravenclaw common room was located. The once structured public halls and the underground chambers were now converted into the common room of the respective houses. It was situated on the bottom floors so that people can visit them with ease. The main reason being that the juniors won't have to traverse their way through the right-wing on their own.

Although it was in the rarest of rare chances that there would be cases reported of harassment, the Ministry did not want to take any chances to garner defamation on their plate. Hence laws were made strict.

She first knocked at the Eagle Door Knocker. Once the soft, musical voice who stood guard on the Ravenclaw common room doors piped in, Eleanor did not waste a moment longer and informed her of the whereabouts. The voice though knew about the ongoings at Hogwarts but did not dare disrespect the Head Girl as she went off with her commands.

"Do not ask for answers to the riddles. Just let students in if anyone passes by or attempts to get inside." Eleanor finished with her set of instructions for the Eagle.

She then hastily took the staircase upstairs to repeat the same process with the Gryffindor common room. The Fat Lady, who was sitting on her chair wearing a red satin gown, knew something was wrong when she saw the Head Girl approaching and enquired in her usual monotonous voice, "Is everything alright?"

"I believe not. Let the students in if they come for shelter, irrespective of their houses. This is Professor Howard's order." Eleanor said in a rather hurried manner.

The Fat Lady agreed to her instructions and went backwards making the opening for the students to go inside while Eleanor disapparated again for the Fountain Courtyard.

While Eleanor was busy with the preparations of the left-wing of the castle, Jonathan followed the same steps to inform the Hufflepuff and Slytherin common room guards.

Just like Eleanor, he first went to the underground basement which held the Slytherin common room. He let his voice be heard as he bellowed the password and was granted access through the stone wall which adorned five serpent heads whose tails coiled together to be one which was hidden behind a silver encrusted hollow opening.

He went inside and explained the prevailing circumstances to Salazar Slytherin whose large portrait hung on the wall facing the inner side of the stone wall which looked like a large wooden door with a silver knob. Salazar had the hold over the passwords and the security of the entrance door.

"You need to unlock the door and keep it open, even for the students belonging to either of the three houses. Headmaster Howard gave the orders." Salazar nodded his head in understanding and Jonathan left the place as quickly as he came in and made his way upstairs.

He being the Head Boy knew all the passwords and the security protocols of the common rooms and the dormitories. He tapped the third barrel from below, located in the middle row, in the rhythm of 'Helga Hufflepuff'. The door opened to let him through into a warm and cosy environment of the Hufflepuff common room.

He approached the painting of Helga Hufflepuff, who was smiling widely, in the room situated on the left side of the room which was illuminated by sunlight. Although it was dark outside, it would always be lighted in here. He spoke in a soft voice, "Madam you need to take back the spells on the barrels so that students from other houses can enter into the common room. It's an emergency at Hogwarts."

"I am always ready to welcome students to my common room. The spells shall be lifted." Saying this Helga left the painting and went to lift the spells on the entrance doors.

Jonathan left knowing that the preparations shall be completed in no time. He disapparated to go to the Fountain Courtyard.
