Lockdown In Hogwarts- Chapter Four (Part III)

Just when she thought everything would be okay, she suddenly felt the presence of someone standing right behind her. She quietly turned her head in the backside direction and she was quick to know that the person standing there won't be quiet for long.

Eleanor tried to gain the attention of the lady standing there like a stone statue by her hand movements, but she failed miserably. The woman's eyes were transfixed on the frightening sight of the creatures that had managed to break in. Soon after, they heard a shrill cry resonating throughout the corridor.

Madam Beckwith was terrified out of bounds. She wouldn't stop shouting no matter what. It was perhaps the very first time she had encountered gnash-romes in her entire lifespan of 57 years.

Eleanor looked ahead to see the gnash-romes going on alert mode. The creatures picked up the source of the sound and buzzed forward to attack based on their potential hearing ability, which was higher than humans.

"Incendio" Eleanor cast the fire conjuring spell on the first gnash-rome who was on lead.

The strident bellow of the creature confused the other two members of the trio who were planning on attacking their victims. Eleanor saw the opportunity, and she rushed towards Madam Beckwith. She held her hand and made her run along with her.

They were approaching Madam Beckwith's office cum quarter, which was situated next to the library. No sooner had the agonizing cries of the burnt creature died, they started heading for the two humans running for their life. Eleanor cast a look over her shoulders to see the gnash-romes coming right upon them. She let go of Madam Beckwith's hand and called after her, "Get shelter, go!"

She turned around just in the nick of time to see both the gnash-romes turned into stone and collapsed almost a metre away from her. She glanced up from the now statue-like figures of the creatures and noticed Jonathan standing at the foot of the staircase. He was in fact the one who had cast the transfiguration spell "Duro".

Eleanor stood stunned for a moment looking at the handsome face of her opponent before she regained her senses. She averted her gaze from his face to look at the broken window above the staircase where she could see more gnash-romes at a distance rushing towards them.

"Come on quickly, let's get out of here", Jonathan said, getting back to his usual calm demeanour and approaching her.

"No, wait. I can't leave without ensuring the library is properly secured", Eleanor responded while returning to the library doors.

She resumed her work and started securing the last of the locks. Just then another two of the blind creatures entered through the already broken windows. Eleanor was distracted by the sound of the buzzing insects which were speedily nearing them.

All of a sudden, the two glass vases at the other end of the corridor made loud clinking noises as they hit the stone flooring. Eleanor looked to her left to see Jonathan's wand ready to strike, but not her. He had cast the Knockback Jinx on the glass vases placed on the wooden table at the opposite corner of the hallway so that the gnash-romes would follow the sound source and hence provide them with the needed time.

Needless to say, the gnash-romes did exactly that. As soon as the humongous insects crossed over their head and headed for the other end of the corridor, Eleanor resumed her work. In the back of her mind, she was thinking of thanking Jonathan once they were out of there, safe and sound. She also concentrated on the thought that Jonathan had used Flipendo instead of Finestra. He is exceptionally smart. She shook her head to clear her wandering thoughts and concentrated on her work.

There was a minute opening now left to close. Jonathan moved a foot forward to continue casting his spells. He needed to restrain the critters for a minute more for Eleanor to complete the task in hand. The buzzing creatures were analyzing the wreckage caused by the vases. Though these were blind animals, they used their other senses to detect the objects in their surroundings. Before the gnash-romes could revive themselves, Jonathan made the painting of Basil Fronsac, located right above the table which held the glass vases, to topple over on their heads.

The crazed gnash-romes started going in rounds around each other. These wild creatures, seeming nimble-witted, can be easily confused if one works with utmost proficiency. It was evidently true in this case.

About half a minute later the door to the library was finally shut and sealed. The magical locks were secured in their proper places. The two blithering animals were still engrossed amongst themselves. The hard hit on the head might have impacted their brain cells.

Even before Eleanor could register her handiwork, she caught the sight of more gnash-romes approaching through the corner of her left eye. She looked around to see Jonathan's back facing her. She lost no time and darted towards Jonathan. He and I must get out of here at once.

But before she could reach to him and utter anything coherent, he suddenly turned around at an unimaginable speed and bumped into the speeding figure of Eleanor. Before either of them could register the on-goings of the surroundings, they were transferred to an eerily dark place, where time seemed to stop its track and heartbeat seemed to dominate the silence.
