So this contest was an interesting one. The challenge was to recreate a fantasy/sci-fi character with a black celebrity playing the role instead. I thought it was the perfect contest, as it's based on a relevant topic today -namely the BLM movement. It gives black people a chance to be represented in the graphic community, so I had to join.
Initially, I had a plethora of ideas on matchmaking (e.g. Rihanna as Black Widow, Beyonce as Wonder Woman, Keke Palmer as Lara Croft, etc.) - most of which ended up being unsuccessful in terms of executing what I had in mind and adhering to the prompt. I also had to keep in mind that it had to either be a fantasy or sci-fi edit. Then I decided to step out of the mainstream bubble of ideas and go for more complex characters. Maleficent was the perfect fit for our queen Naomi Campbell. She just has the right face structure and personality for the role.
This is definitely one of the better graphics I've made. Very proud of how it turned out. Though I must say, after this project imma have to take a break from the colour green 🤢
