Lorcan

"It's not supposed to be like this."

Elide- the nightmare she to this day still is- somehow roped me into sneaking around the palace to find a certain pair that had been notably absent all evening. What she hoped to gain from it, I don't think I'll ever know other than constantly annoying me about it and refusing to believe the whole situation doesn't have me uncomfortable.

"Oh, Lorcan shut up, would you? Look at them." And I did. They'd both somehow managed to tangle their limbs together like they'd never break apart. Fenrys had somehow slid down the bed and his head was looking far too comfortable on Luna's chest as they both slept soundly curled around each other.

"I'm looking." I hissed in a whisper. "I'm looking at a dude that is a hundred and forty years older than her! Elide look at it this way, I would really rather not have Marion and Vaughan-"

"Enough. Does age really matter?" She glowered, finally looking at me, sizing me up like she did in that way she had, making me feel about an inch tall. "You're right. Old men are so weird. Bye." She turned to leave, stopping her with my hand around her wrist.

"Stop being childish."

"When you stop being completely ridiculous. Surely this is better than her with some absolute asshole she found in the street?"

I scoffed at that and rolled my eyes. She barely even knew him. Just like Luna. Fenrys barely knew her either. Actually it was more surprising that Fenrys hadn't been more reserved about the whole thing whether he knew or not. Afterall, she was still that same kid that he'd looked after when she was a baby. Yes, I would always be hundreds of years older than Elide, but I wasn't best friends with her dad. Nor was in the room when she was actually born. "Fenrys is not the kind of person to settle down." Was the argument I'd settled with which is exactly what he'd been throwing at me for the years before being sworn to Aelin. Eugh. Another insufferable child.

"Oh really?" Elide was looking back into Luna's dimly lit room, the moonlight dancing in through the window. "When was the last time he's actually been with someone?"

Truth was I couldn't remember. Didn't actually know whether it was more of a struggle to remember when it was past the fact it could have actually been Maeve. Which was neither a pleasant or comforting thought. "I don't see how that's relevant."

"How can you not see how this is relevant? He's known ever since she was born, Lorcan. Whether subconsciously or not. He never settled because nobody was ever her."

My nose screwed up involuntarily and had the sense to hide it before she turned back to me and smacked it straight off my face. "It's weird."

"Oh shut up. Honestly."

"We've at least got to tell Rowan." Because I didn't particularly want to be castrated for withholding that particular bit of information.

I flinched back when she stepped forward, then squared my shoulders. She saw it though and grinned at the reaction, the wicked, beautiful creature. She was trying so hard not to scream in my face, lest she wake- I didn't even want to think of who it was. "You will do no such thing. That's not fair. She will tell him herself when she is ready. And if you utter a word of this to anyone, you won't have to worry about me killing you. I'm sure she'll be more than willing to do it herself."

"I'm not talking about this anymore."

"Good." Elide let a soft smile brace her face as she gently pulled the door back closed and sighed highly. "It is exciting though."
