Reward

This is the most awkward breakfast I've ever been.

After the short introduction, 'Crystal this is Apollo. Apollo this is Crystal ' and shake hands while muttering short 'hellos' to each other, I never plan para mag-tagal pa.

Well, usually kami lang naman na dalawa kasi ni Nanay ang kumakain tuwing breakfast and this will be the first time na may kasama kami. Nasa breakfast nook kami and there's a round table for four perfect for us.

Nasa left side ko si Nanay Mathilda, mag-katabi sila ni Nanay Mathilde at nasa left side niya si Apollo which means mag-katabi kami.

I timidly get some pancake from the platter and pour carefully the maple syrup into it. Nakikinig lang ako habang nag-uusap silang tatlo.

The whole time nakafocus lang ako sa pagkain. Never engage in their conversation and never look to his side. Apollo's side.

That's the plan.

So far so good, the two Nanays are so engrossed in chatting with each other kaya naman it's no biggie for me para manahimik.

Tapos na akong kumain and the plan is success not until aksidenteng nahulog ang kutsara ko and to my horror sa right side pa niya where Apollo is sitting.

Maingay ang pagakahulog nito kaya naman natigil saglit ang pag-uusap nila. Sa pagka-taranta ay bigla akong yumuko para pulutin ito. Kaso yumuko din si Apollo para kunin din ito, ang resulta ay nagka-untugan kami ng ulo.

"Ouch/Aray." sabay pa naming sabi.

Hinawakan ko ang napuruhan kong noo at kinapa, wag namang sanang magbukol. Gaad.

Tumingin ako kay Apollo para sana humingi ng tawad ng mahuli ko tong nakatitig sa akin. May muta pa ba ako na diko naalis? Or narealize niya ding sobrang ganda ko talaga? I blushed on that thought.

"Here." sabi nito sabay abot sa akin nung nahulog kong kutsara.

I mumbled short thanks to him bago ko kinuha ito sa kanya. Both Nanays continue their conversation after that. I silently recite my short prayer after the meal at niligpit na din ang aking pinagkainan.

"Nanay Mathilda at Nanay Mathilde," agaw pansin ko sa kanila. Tumingin naman silang dalawa sa akin. "Tapos na po akong kumain, salamat po sa breakfast. Nay, mauuna na akong umalis. Itutuloy ko pa yung ginagawa ko last week." paalam ko sa kanila.

Nanay Mathilda just nod to me and Nanay Mathilde gave me soft smile. Tumayo na ako after that at paalis na sana.

"Clumsy." rinig kong sabi ni Apollo.

Tumingin pa ako sa kanya to know whom he is reffering but he is eating like he said nothing, pero parang alam ko na kung kanino.

"Whatever." taray ko sa kanya bago tuluyan nang umalis. I'm so gaga talaga to think he is nice.

Isa pa talaga. Nakakainis na siya, if he thinks having no pores gives him the right to be rude well he must tell me first his skin care. I really want the quality of his skin. Argh.

Every week there's a task that I must complete for me to get the reward that I want. If everyone thinks that being a governor's daughter lives in luxury not all of them.

Because in my case, Nanay taught me that everything comes with a price, a reward for hardwork. And that's what I'm doing right now here in the garden. Two weeks na akong nag-bubungkal at nagpapatag ng lupa para sa mga bagong panananim ni Nanay Mathilda.

Apparently, dapat may hardinerong gagawa nito but because I want that new release book collection of my favorite author, here I am sweating already and full of dirt.
