Chapter 17 : How To Spend The Day Away

When I woke up, I was most definitely not in the same position I first started in. My face was buried in the crook of Warren’s neck. I was laying on my side, half on the bed, half on Warren. His arms were woven tightly around my waist, but all of his muscles were relaxed. If that was relaxed, I’d hate to see tensed.

I yawned, deciding just to lay there for a couple minutes more. He was still asleep, and he was very warm. Kind of like a cute little puppy dog you don’t want to put down. When he wasn’t calling me oh-so-lovely names, or have that little smirk on his face, he was actually kind of…handsome. Like, naturally good-looking.

His cheekbones were high, so when he gave you a glare or a mean look he would just look downright sexy. I’ve also studied his eyes, too. They were darker than his soul, I think. They were a leathered brown, all washed up and worn-out. His lips were long and full, always pulled back in that smirk that he wore.

Just like it was now.

“Are you watching me sleep, princess?” He whispered, his lips moving like a butterfly. His eyes stayed closed and his breathing was still. It’s like he was still asleep, but he wasn’t at the same time.

I’m positive he could feel my heartbeat accelerate. “No,” I denied. “I was looking at the booger that’s stuck on your nose.”

“Good save, whipped cream, good save.”

I sighed. “I like you better when you don’t open your mouth.”

He snorted. “That makes two of us.”

“Then shut up.”

His head suddenly turned towards mine. His eyes flashed open, showing me that dark storm. “What if I don’t want to?” His breath hit my face, and it somehow still had a lingering scent of mint.

I swallowed as I looked down at his lips, then back up to his big eyes. “Then I’d probably slap you.”

If it was any possible, he moved even closer. “Do it,” He whispered, the tone so low I barely heard it and I was right there next to him. “I dare you.”

We stared at each other for three full seconds before I brought my hand up and smacked his cheek - hard.

I don’t know what I was thinking. But I knew very clearly what my thought had been after I had did it: Run. So I kicked the covers up and hauled ass out of that bed. I had like a millisecond to run to the bathroom and slam the door behind me, locking it and pressing my body weight on the door. My whole body was shaking and my breathing was heavy.

I didn’t even hear him move. There was no sound coming from the other side of the door. I held my breath, no matter how much my lungs begged for air. There was suddenly a very loud bang on the door, so loud that I jumped back ten feet. “You have to come out of there sometime, sweetie,” Warren’s voice cooed. But it sounded insane. “And when you do…I’ll be waiting.”
