I grumbled to myself in aggravation as I drove my brothers rickety old car to the local DX. This was apparently ny obligation as my brother has work today and also accuses me of breaking the car in the first place. Just because the break happened to occur while I was driving does not mean it's my fault!

I can only hope that they don't take all day to fix it. I would hate to spend my weekend hanging out in a mechanics garage.

I pulled into the shop to see two boys staring at me curiously. I blushed as I took in their appearance. They each seemed to hold a boyish cahrm to them. I quickly unbuckled my seat belt and pulled myself from the vehicle.

"Hi, I called this morning about getting my car looked at?" I pushed my sunglasses up onto my forehead as one of the boys walked over to greet me.

He spoke my name in a question, confirming I was the one he was remembering.

"I'm Steve," he greeted, "the car is looking a little shabbier than it sounded on the phone?"

He didn't seem happy with that.

"Oh, yes, but umm, my brother just wants you to fix the thing I told you about," I reassured. "You can just leave everything else the way it is."

"If you say so." He shrugged, taking the keys from my grasp.

He seemed rather indifferent but I became suddenly embarrassed of the car. If it had been my car I never wouldbe let it get to the shape its in.

"Yeah, it's my brother's car. He's a little bit of a reckless driver and as long as he deems it drivable he doesn't really worry about getting it fixed." I rambled as I followed him over to the car. He attempted to crank the car. The engine sputtered but refused to turn over. He looked at me w raised brows. "Oh! The ignition is a little weird, you have to hold the key funny."

I reached my torso through the window of the car, reaching over towards the key. I gripped the key, pushing it into the ignition with all of ny strength, and pulled it down at an angle. The engine roared to life and I turned to smile at Steve. It was only then I became aware of how much of his space I had taken up. I could feel is breath on my cheek as he let out a deep chuckle.

"Y'know, that's something we could fix sweetheart," He smiled. I felt my cheeks heat up as I slowly pulled myself from the driver's side window.

"Uh, my brother said nothing that'll take longer than today and nothing that costs extra money." I pushed a strand of hair behind my ear, staring at my feet.

"Alright, Darlin'." He laughed again, putting the car in drive. "It should be ready in a few hours for you."

With that he pulled that car into the garage and I slowly walked away. I wanted to smack myself in the face. I can't believe I leaned in window like that! I was practically in his lap!

I walked down the street to a cafe where I pulled a book out of my purse and started to read. I had never been one for fantasy but there was something about The Hobbit that just pulled me into its world.

By the time I had to go pick up the car I was so entranced in the world of Bilbo and Gandalf that I had lost track of time. It was onky the bell ringing as another customer enter that finally pulled my attention away. I looked up at the clock and a curse fell from my lips. I threw my things into my bag and sped out of the door, causing for the bell to jangle one last time.

By the time I had arrived the garage I was 30 minutes late. I let out a flurry of apologies as I walked up to the two boys leaning on my car.

The boy I hadn't met smiled as he continuously nudged Steve next to him. Even as I rambled I could see the pink cheeks he held and the glares he threw towards the other boy.

"Don't worry about it!" The boy interrupted me. "Steve has something he'd like to ask you though!"

"Oh?"

"Yeah, umm," the other boy grabbed Steve by the shoulders, shaking him excitedly as he spoke. "Soda! Get outta here!"

The other boy frowned in response but nodded and walked away. It was only about ten feet but that seemed to be good enough for Steve.

"As I was trying say, would you maybe wanna go out with me sometime soon?"

"Like a date?"

"Like a date."

Butterflies erupted in my stomach and a short giggle escape my lips.

"I'd really like that Steve." I responded, sending him a smile.

"Great, perfect!" He smiled, pulling a piece of paper from his pocket. "Here's my number and everything, you can call me and we'll arrange everything."

"Sounds good to me!" I couldn't keep the smile off of my face as he led me to the car and I handed him his payment.

He gave the car a gentle tap on the good as I drove away, and I looked into the cracked rear view mirror to see him with his hand in the air, giving a gentle wave.
