One acrylic nail dug into long, straightened black hair. Sweat dripped down the young woman's brow, stinging her eyes slightly as it brought twinges of annoyance running across her mind. She had big news, news her companion and long time best friend would find exciting, if it was true.
Stunning and earthy brown eyes lifted to the door of the Californian Mega mansion and the brunette worried at the edge of her buttoned-down white shirt.
Perfection, that was what he required. Always, she had to be perfect. Perfect hair, perfect clothes, perfect grammar. It had been expected and if it wasn't seen it was forced upon her. He was not abusive, no the man had more taste than that. Instead he instilled fear on her in threats of abandoning her, leaving her.
The young woman had quickly learned that was not something she wanted. Being abandoned was her biggest fear and he knew how to exploit it.
So, that girl strode into the house and took the time to gather enough courage to let certain words escape her perfect lips.
"Hey, you blond twat, I have news!" Her heartbeat filled her ears in the dead silence and she felt shivers crawl up her spine, icy cold moving down her legs. The heat of the Los Angeles spring day was fought back by the fear he could instill in her at any moment.
"Oh?" The accented voice filled her ears from centimeters behind her and the brunette resisted the urge to twirl around. "Did the rumors you were sent to discover as false as I knew?" He quizzed, walking around her slowly so his arctic blue eyes clashed with her earthy brown ones.
His eyes were like if water rested on steel, gray yet still holding a blue quality, almost muddled with the flecks of gold and the ring of green around his pupil. They held hers, stopping her in place and causing her heart to feel as if it were to explode. She hated it.
The young woman sucked in a slow breath, calming her rising heart beat at the mere sight of him. His lips quirked upwards, obviously hearing every way her body reacted to him. It was quite annoying.
"Don't be so ignorant, Nik. The rumors were true, there's another doppelganger, a human one. I have yet to know where she is but the moment I find her you will be the first to know." She strode around him, picking up a bottle of champagne and pouring herself a glass. Settling down on the expensive leather couch, she acted as if she had no care in the world, but a careful examination would tell you that each movement was perfectly coordinated to look effortless.
"I should never have doubted you, Talia, you always seem to be right," he chuckled in reply, sarcasm dripping from each venomous word. But both knew he would never hurt her, he cared for her too much. She was the one person who chose to stay at his side even through all the threats. She could have left at any time but she had stayed, and he sadly respected her for it, enough to never lay a hand on her. "But, be more careful with your words, love, I have killed others for far less than calling me 'ignorant'."
The young woman, Talia, let a smile fall upon her lips, her caramel toned hand clutching the champagne glass with ease. "You'd never hurt me, Klaus. You can't, if you dare kill me you will die, too. Even if you didn't, who would handle your finances? Your coverups? Your payoffs and all that? A secretary would never be as good as me and we both know that, but that is only if you don't die."
"You may be right, now, why don't you shower and I'll have Margerie make us some dinner and set up a movie for you, I have some work to get done and you should relax."
Talia's entire body nearly sagged. Thank God, she didn't have to continue keeping her perfect act. A hot shower, one of Margerie's delicious meals and a movie was exactly what she needed after her long week.
Klaus expected perfection but had always been good to her, he knew when she needed relaxation and knew that right now he couldn't expect more from her. So, the young woman nodder at her best friend, and long time companion and headed up the stairs to her room.
