Called me poor in faith to say
Blind optimism's not the way,
Nor sentimentality's dull grip,
Nor pessimism's cruel whip.
Try to see things
As they are
And heed a pair of guiding stars.
Their names be "Love and Reason."
For trysts 'twixt head and heart
Bring fruits to any season.
