"What's your boyfriend doing?" My uncle nodded out the kitchen window to Joe.

I raised myself on my tip-toes and leaned over the sink to see Joe leaning against black pillar that supported the right side of my uncle's porch. He looked as though he was deep in thought, staring off across the street.

"I dunno..." I muttered, drying my hands quickly and heading to the front door.

"Don't worry, I can finish these." Uncle David yelled, sticking his hands into the soapy dishwater.

I paused at the screen door, looking back at him. He was laughing quietly to himself, shaking his head. I smiled at him before walking outside.

Joe immediately glanced over his shoulder at the sound of the door closing and then turned back to the street.

"Hey, (Y/N)."

"Hey..." I came up beside him, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Something the matter?"

"Nah," he sighed, shaking his head. "I'm just thinkin' 'bout that call Glenn Frey promised me."

"Oh, was he suppose to call you today?"

"He was suppose to."

"Oh, honey, I'm sorry."

"Don't be-"

"No, Joey, I really am sorry. This is suppose to be your big break, and I-"

"(Y/N),"

"Just kept you from it by bringing you here an-"

"(Y/N)," he said just a little louder.

"Yeah?"

He turned to me, his thin lips turning up into a slight grin. He grabbed my both my hands gently and laced his fingers with mine.

"Now, I came here to spend some quality time with you before we head off into unknown territory." He kissed one hand. "I do not want you to change your life just for me. I know David wouldn't like that and I know neither of us would be happy if you did that."

I nodded, looking into his soft, grey eyes.

"We're gonna visit your Uncle David as often as we always have," he pulled me closer. "We're gonna unhook the phone and keep them waiting as long as we want,"

I giggled as he wrapped his arms around me and squeezed me.

"Joe," I grinned, trying to push him away.

"And if they don't like it, they can find another man!"

"I bet they'd have something to say about that."

"Like what?"

"Something like, get your hands off my niece 'fore I kick you both out." Uncle David's voice came from behind us, making us look to the screen door.

Joe pulled away from me. Not completely, but just enough to make himself comfortable again. Anytime someone was around us when he was all lovey, he would turn beet red with embarrassment.

"(Y/N), your Aunt Betty's coming for dinner."

"Oh, you two are talking again?"

"Yeah, well," he still stood behind the screen door, putting a hand on it, debating whether or not to join us outside. "I figured that the split happened years ago and... well, that bridge should'a been burned along with it."

"So, if you don't mind me asking, there wont be a fight at the table tonight when she comes down?"

I laughed at Joe, his face still very red, and I put my head on his chest.

"No, no, she's had dinner with me before tonight, everything will be fine."

"Okay..."

Uncle David turned to leave us, pausing for a second. "You might wanna come out of the heat, Joe. You're startin' to get all red."

"I'll be in in a bit." He smiled, looking down to me

I scrunched my nose up at him and he did it back. We laughed at each other, slowly quieting down again and looking out into the yard.

Joe started an unnecessarily loud yawn that twisted my face when I looked at him.

"Uhhhh, how 'bout a nap?" He asked, looking down to me.

I raised my eyebrow and shook my head. "Only if you promise not to do that again."

"Can't make any promises." He said, smirking.

I rolled my eyes and he took my hand, leading me into the house, and into the back room where we were staying.
