No One's POV
The past few weeks have been very busy lately, as the Decepticons had several run-ins with the Autobots and their human pets. Soundwave had also been thinking very hard, trying to find something Iris could do that would be useful to the Decepticons. The main problem was the fact that she was blind. Megatron would not tolerate her presence about the ship, unless he could find a workaround. He had to walk to the Rec Room to get his Energon today, as Lazerbeak was out scouting. As he passed by a table with a small group of Vehicons, he happened to hear their passing chatter. They were discussing the topic of why he wore a mask. Soundwave felt like kicking himself. The answer had been literally right in from of him the whole time! He decided to begin his new project that very night. Once he returned to his quarters, he carried his needed supplies with him. He had got them from the medbay, and simply told Knockout he wished to update his own visor. Yes, he was making a visor for Iris so that she could (hopefully) see. It worked for him, so hopefully it would for her. She had been asleep when he came in, but he heard her wake up as he began to construct a very small visor.
"Hey, Soundwave! What are you doing?" Iris asked him in between yawns.
"Soundwave: making a human visor.
Purpose: for Iris to see," he replied in his usual tone.
Iris gasped, sitting up in shock.
"Really!" she yelled. "I'll be able to see!"
Iris felt like bouncing off the walls. If Soundwave fixed her sight, she would be forever in his debt.
"Affirmative," he replied, making sure she couldn't tell he was smiling.
"Reprimand: return to recharge."
She sighed, but obeyed, covering her head so the noise wasn't as loud.
Soundwave worked through almost the whole night. He was exhausted, but this needed to be done. He would rather be the one to tell Megatron of the human himself, rather than Megaton find out from another source (cough-Starscream-cough). Once it was done, he examined it with a pleased optic. The visor was made of dark glass, with a purple frame, much like his own. It would, however, only cover her eyes. It has various wires, which he would use to connect the visor to the nerves in her eyes and brain (just, pretend they can do that). He then decided to have an early day today, rather than get the two hours of recharge he still had left. He went to the terminal he had in his quarters, and typed away. Time flew by, and he soon heard Iris waking up.
"Soundwave: wishes Iris a good morning," he said. She tilted her head at him. He was normally gone when she woke up.
"Why are you still in here? Not that I'm complaining of course," she said quickly. Although she hadn't been hurt here yet, she was still nervous she'd say something wrong. Thankfully, she didn't think he knew about the nightmares. She had long since learned how to hide them from her parents. Soundwave stopped typing and turned to her.
"Soundwave: has the visor ready.
Remaining preparations: need to connect it to Iris' nervous system," he responded. Iris frowned. She hated the thought of being cut open.
"Will it hurt?" she asked softly. Soundwave shook his head, even if she couldn't see it.
"Iris: will be unconscious.
Plan: we need to do this tonight."
He would have done it beforehand, but he wouldn't have time, and he didn't need Megatron knocking on his door wondering where he was when he was in the middle of a surgery. Soundwave would also use that time to better study exactly how he was going to do this. He wasn't a medic, but he knew enough to at least patch himself up. Hopefully, the internet would tell him what he needed to know. With his usual parting recordings, Soundwave left to continue to fulfill his duties.
"Ah Soundwave! I was about to search for you! Where have you been?" Lord Megatron's voice greeted him as he entered the bridge.
"Soundwave: woke early and worked from quarters," he said. Sometimes he didn't have the recordings to says exactly what he wanted, but this would do. Megaton let him be after that. Soundwave continued his work at his usual terminal. The day seemed normal, until he found something. Oh yes. That Energon mine. It had been abandoned for five years, yet he caught traces of Energon in it. He alerted Megatron to the site. An evil smirk crossed his features.
"Ah yes! I see Starscream is up to his old tricks! Hoarding Energon is a capital crime! Summon him to the bridge, if you will. I will take him on a...stroll," he said. Soundwave immediately obeyed him. Once Starscream reached the bridge, the pair left. Soundwave resumed his duties. After about an hour, Soundwave began to worry. His Master would normally be done by now. Why hadn't he called for a bridge? He tried comming him, with no response. He checked his life signal. He appeared to be injured, but not offline. He was still at the coordinates that Soundwave had given him. He checked Starscream, with similar results. He continued to try Megatron's comm. Still nothing. He was about to go down there himself, when he heard his Master's weary voice asking for a bridge. He could hear Starscream's sniveling voice in the background. He supposed Megatron had changed his mind about killing the backstabbing seeker. After the pair returned, Megatron beat up Starscream, who then left, still sniveling and groveling. Megatron then told Soundwave what happened with the cave-in, and how they ran into the Autobots and their pets. He then ranted about Starscream for awhile. Soundwave was exhausted, as normal, when he returned to his quarters, but he was determined to install the visor for Iris. Once he returned, he noticed that she was still awake. He knew she was nervous. They greeted each other, and Soundwave methodically went about preparing them both for the surgery. Using the small first-aid kit he'd gotten for her awhile back, he sterilized a needle and prepared a sedative. He carefully brought the needle over to her.
"Inquiry: are you ready?" he asked her. She swallowed hard.
"Y-yes," she said. He carefully injected the sedative into her bloodstream, and she was out in a few seconds. He began the process. He had decided to use his holoform for maximum precision and accuracy. Lazerbeak was quiet as asked, as Soundwave began to carefully integrate the visor into her nervous system. It took him hours, before he was done. He finally stood back, and admired his work. It had all, thankfully, gone without a hitch. Soundwave scanned her, and saw that the sedative would be wearing off soon. He deactivated his holoform, and waited for her to wake up. After about twenty minutes, she slowly stretched, groaning.
Iris's POV
I groaned as I began to wake up. Was he done?! Could I finally see?! I opened my eyes, half expecting to see the usual darkness. Instead, I saw a rather blurry image of a huge purple robot who was wearing a mask. He was very tall, had a triangular body, had strange skinny arms, and his spindly finger connected to his wrist without the use of a palm.
I squinted up at the figure.
"Soundwave?"
I have several reasons for doing this. First, it is very difficult to write a blind character. Second, I figured that Soundwave would use a similar solution to solve her handicap that he used for his own problems. I hope y'all enjoy this chapter! I'm happy I finally have some idea of what the rest of this story will look like.
