[ Chapter Ten: Sporting Bruises ]

AGE: 15

MIA SAT WITH ME IN THE NURSES' OFFICE, the both of us waiting patiently for her to come back. Jeremiah, Michael, and Lilly weren't able to come, they had to go to their own class. I gave my twin a look when she leaned against the counter, accidentally pushing some paperwork onto the floor.

"Hello, girls." The voice of Dr. Cross snapped me out of my thoughts as she entered the office with her clipboard

"Hey, doc. What's the diagnosis?" I asked her as I continued to press the ice on my head, soothing the bruise

"Luckily, Miss Thermopolis, you don't need to go to the hospital. Well, I suggest you don't play baseball or any sports activity for the rest of the day. Do not fall asleep or take a nap, young lady. If your headache gets worse or your slight dizziness, then go to the hospital to check yourself out." Dr. Cross informed me while she went to sit down on her spinning chair, scooting closer to me

"That's good, no medicine? Does she have to go home?" Mia questioned the nurse, glancing at me guiltily before looking back at her

"No to both, Miss Thermopolis." Dr. Cross confirmed and I nodded my head, jumping off the bed to walk away from the office

"Thanks, Dr. Cross." I thanked her before leaving the room and I could hear the footsteps of my sister following me

"Mary, I'm really sorry for the baseball incident." Mia apologized to me and I nodded my head, not even looking back at her

"Can you speak to me please?" Mia began to plead with me and I internally debated on it, not knowing what to say to her

"Mia, I'm just not in the mood to talk, I'm just tired," I confessed to her, stopping myself from walking any further

"You can't take a nap!" My sister exclaimed loudly causing me to jump slightly and I turned my head to look at her

"I'm not gonna nap, I just want everything to be silent for a while at least," I told her, and I knew that she knew that I had meant everyone also

"You mean you want me to be quiet!" Mia exclaimed and I gave her a glare, turning to face her, with one hand still on my head and one on my hip

"Mia, I did not say that! Do not put words in my mouth!" I shot back at her before walking away from her

"You were thinking about it!" Mia exclaimed, rushing to stand in front of me, walking backward so she faced me

"No, I was not, Mia!" I denied it immediately and Mia's leg twitched, causing her to stumble but I went to catch her in my arms

That was the first mistake because once I did that, she held on tight onto me. I wasn't fast enough so we both fell onto the grass but Mia had softened the blow under me. I grunted and did my best to roll off her as she took a couple of deep breaths.

"Sorry." Mia apologized to me and I stayed silent, not even responding to her as I went to eye my ice pack that was now dirty on the ground
