[ Chapter Sixteen: A Best Friend ]

AGE: 17

I SMILED AT THE GUEST in front of me as we danced with one another in the crowded room. His brown hair combed back with his suit tucked in perfectly on his body but yet, he still managed to look uncomfortable around the eyes. I raised an eyebrow at his direction, intrigued on what was going on inside my dance partner's mind.

"So, I never got your name?" I asked him, as we spun around once more but still keeping our distance

"Nicholas Devereaux, your majesty." He answered my question and I hummed, recognizing that name that has come out of the mouth of Viscount Mabrey

"You're Viscount Mabrey's nephew, aren't you?" I asked him, just to double confirm my suspicions

"Indeed I am." Nicholas told me with a nod of his head and I smiled softly at him, and he smiled back though a bit questioningly

"Oh, I heard about your parents from my grandmother, I'm sorry for your loss." I said to him, frowning and his smile dimmed, before he quickly glanced down

"Thank you, I'm sorry about your father. I would have said this when he passed, but we didn't know each other back then." Nicholas said to me, his eyes meeting mines briefly once more

"True, Lord Deveraux. We did not, a shame I admit, since I think we could be great friends." I told him and he let out a low laugh

"Who says we can't be great friends right now?" Nicholas asked me and I nodded my head, laughing lightly

"I have a feeling that we will be best friends." I commented, and this time, he hummed causing me to laugh

"Your majesty, we are already best friends." Nicholas told me, spinning me around before bowing at me

"If we are, then you have to meet Jeremiah." I said to him, hoping that he already knew who he was to me

"Is that your boyfriend? I heard about him a few times from your grandmother whenever she talks about the both of you." Nicholas revealed to me, causing my face to flush at his words

"Oh, I didn't know that she does that." I told him, turning my head to look at my grandmother who was dancing with Viscount Mabrey

"She does, whenever she talks about you and your sister." Nicholas informed me and I hummed, not knowing what to say now
