Your POV

It was your birthday today, but you didn't tell anyone as you thought that in this scary manor where everyone is busy with playing this awful game, nobody would want to celebrate anyone's birthday.

Sighing, you looked at the picture of you and your parents that was taken on your ninth birthday on your bedside table, a week before you got into a car accident that killed both your parents.

"Mum, dad... I miss you," You mumbled softly, hugging the picture as you could feel tears filling the brim of your eyes. "I'm officially twelve today. If only we could celebrate it together."

Tears started to fall down your cheeks like rivulets as you sobbed silently. You were crying so hard you felt as if you couldn't breathe. You missed your parents a lot, and you would do anything to get them back.

After a while, you got out of bed and decided to go downstairs to the dining room to eat your breakfast.

Since it was almost noon, the dining room was empty, and Smiley Face was the only one there. You grabbed a plate and placed some food on it before joining him at the table.

Smiley Face was constantly looking at you worriedly while you ate. You weren't sure why, but you brushed it off and continued minding your own business.

After you finished your meal, you went back to your room. You picked up a pen and paper, and started writing a letter to your parents.

You knew there was no way they'd receive it, but believeing that they recieved your letters and read them helped you cope with the grief, so ever since your parents died in the car crash, for the past three years on your birthday, you wrote letters to them. You always mailed it to the address of your old home where you used to live at before coming to the manor.

Mum, Dad,

It's me, Y/N, your daughter. How are you guys? I hope you're doing well. I miss you guys so much.

I turn twelve today. I wish you were here with me so we can celebrate together. Do you remember that time on my eighth birthday when mum baked a cake so huge it took us almost an entire week to finish it?

I'm still in the manor, playing this sick and messed up game. In case you don't remember what it's about, well, it's something like Hide and Seek, but much more intense. The people here are really nice though, so you don't have to worry.

What about you? How are you feeling? Are you happy?

Well, I better get going now. I hope you know that I love you, and there isn't a day that goes by where I don't miss you.

Yours Sincerely,
Y/N L/N

Smiley Face's POV

I walked towards Ms Nightingale's study at the top floor of the manor, practising in my head what I was going to say.

It isn't like me at all to do something like this for someone, especially for a survivor. I don't know why, but after seeing Y/N's red and swollen eyes earlier, I felt like I needed to do something.

Besides, I heard her saying something about her birthday when I walked past her room to get to the dining room just now.

She has never mentioned anything about her birthday to anyone before, so I had no idea when her birthday is.

I hated seeing her suffer like this, because I know what it feels like to have to celebrate your birthday by yourself.

I knocked on the door of Ms Nightingale's study.

"Come in!"

I opened the door, and saw Ms Nightingale seated at her desk, reading a book.

"Ah, what a surprise to see you, Smiley Face. How can I be of assistance?"

I told her about what I noticed about Y/N earlier. "May I know when is her birthday?"

Ms Nightingale stood up and started to search through a drawer. Pulling a folder out, she flipped through all its contents.

"Aha!" She said, pulling a piece of paper out. She scanned through it's contents, and looked up at me after a while. "Her birthday is today."

Today?!

I thanked her and quickly made my way back to my room, brainstorming about what I could possibly do for her.

Initially, I wanted to plan her a surprise party with the other survivors and hunters but there wasn't enough time for that.

After a long while, I finally decided I would make her a handmade gift.

Since I don't know what Y/N likes, I decided to make her a DIY notebook.

I got to work immediately, cutting pieces of paper for the pages and cloth for the notebook cover. I decorated it with sequins and ribbons. After about two hours, I was finally done.

I took a piece of wrapping paper and wrapped the notebook in it. Then, I wrote her a birthday card and attatched it onto the wrapping paper.

I walked over to the survivor's side of the manor, and when I reached her room, I knocked on her door.

When she opened it, she seemed surprised to see me.

"Uh... happy birthday Y/N! I hope you'll cheer up soon!" I smiled at her, handing her the present I made for her.

"Thank you!"

To my surprise, she hugged me tightly. Not knowing what to do, I stood there in shock for a few seconds before I regained my senses and hugged her back.

And for the first time in many years, I felt my heart fill up with warmth.
