Tessa Winters
I watch as the two cars roll in and everyone turns to them screaming. They must be the top racers around here. The first car to roll past was a red and black 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, the other was a white 2019 Menacing Camaro. These guys like their Camaros. I watch them park and for a few minutes neither got out. Everyone was cheering louder as the doors open and their names were being called out
"Jupiter, Jupiter"
"Knight, Knight"
I could not tell who was. The guy in the red Camaro walked out and they started screaming Knight. His back was to me, but as soon as he turned around, I held my breath. Ryder? I looked over at the white Camaro and watched as a familiar leather jacket came into view. They were street racers; I wonder if Hadley knew. The boys were wearing the same clothes as earlier. They were yelling Jupiter at Asher
If you did not know Jupiter was the Greek name of the god Zeus. Asher loved to read about the Greek gods in middle school and junior high. The name fit him, it looked like he was the king around here. Little did he know I was about to knock his ass off his pedestal. I watched as the boys walked over to the table to sign up. As they stood there they seemed to be in a deep conversation with the guy at the table. Suddenly, they looked over at my car, I froze. I knew they could not see me, but still.
"Fucking shit" I watched them start to walk over. Both walked onto both sides of my car. Asher by my driver's window and Ryder by my passenger
"Hey" I heard and saw Asher knocking on the window. He did a down motion and I cracked it just enough so I could hear him. Ryder walked over
"Hey, want to step out and talk?" Ryder asked
"No" was all I said. I tried my best to make my voice change
"Alright, we-" before Asher could say anything more a loud voice popped out over the speakers.
"Let's race!" I rolled my window up and they guys looked at each other before walking away
There were many racers, mostly men. Maybe three other women besides me. They called me and I was shocked I was racing Ryder. I pulled up to the start line and I was on the right and he was on my left. I cracked my window a little while his was all the way down and flashed my wad of cash. He did the same and I snapped my window shut. The girl in no clothes walked in front of us with a bandanna. She pointed at the both of us
"Are you ready" she said looking at me. I revved my engine "I know you're ready" she looked at Ryder
I look over and see Ryder smirking. I look in my rear-view mirror and see Asher staring right at my car. I shake my head and look straight ahead
"Ready" the girl said sticking her hands up "Set" she paused for dramatic affect "GO!" She screamed as her hands came down
I hit my gas and shifted my gears quickly shooting forwards. We raced down the road we were head and head, I saw the turn coming and slowed down a bit. Ryder saw this and sped up, that move was going to cost him the race already. He started to drift into the corner a little too late and quickly I shifted gears again and yanked my steering wheel drifting into the corner. We both came out of the turn head and head, as we sped down the road, I pressed my foot to the floor and switched gears one more time and pulled ahead of Ryder. I looked over in my mirror and saw him falling behind me, looking head I see the finish line.
All the people were cheering like crazy as I crossed the line and spun around to a stop. Everyone crowded around my car, but I did not make a move to leave. Ryder crossed the line and quickly came to a stop getting out and looking pissed. He started his walk towards me, and everyone parted a path, I rolled down my window and stuck my hand out. He slapped the money in my hand
"Great job, I've never seen racing like that. Whelp expect from Jupiter" he pointed towards Asher. All I did was roll up my window and hocked my horn
People started to move out of the way, and I sped off into the night. It was around one am, and it is going to be another thirty minutes before I get home. So, I turn the radio on, and everyone occasionally look back to make sure no one has followed me. I soon found myself pulling into my parking garage
I turn the car off and get out pulling on my sweatshirt and click the button to shut the garage door. I walked throw the side door where the house and garage meet. Walking in I see Hadley and Hazel passed out in the couch wrapped in a blanket with The Emperor's New Groove playing
I smile before grabbing Hazel and walking her upstairs to her room. I tuck her in and head back downstairs to turn off the tv and lights before going back up to my room. I change into some PJ's before turning the lights out and heading to bed. I crawl under the covers and stare at the ceiling unable to sleep
