Containment Breach

The dead eyes stared at him emptily, blinking emotionlessly as the mass of dull red flesh peered at him from within the testing chamber. Every single iris was a chilling yellow, all ten of the organs focused on him from the other side of the window. One of it's four, beastial mouths parted slowly, letting out a guttural rumble before it skittered backwards, tentacles scrabbling at the polished tile on the floor.

Nicholas shuddered, disgusted at the alien being.

Then it lunged at the glass.

It thunked hard, hidden teeth cracking the inch thick pane on the other side.

Alarms blared in warning. "Secondary containment failing! Get out! Get out of here!" Someone else cried out, already shoveling research papers into a bookbag, another scientist clicking away at the computer in the rush to download the files onto the flash drive. Nicholas glanced back at the pulsating monstrosity in the room before him, only to realize that it was already gone.
"Where the hell did it go?!"He spun around, yelling.

The world seemed to freeze when he heard it. That hiccupping snarl of several mouths at once, echoing in the vents. The person standing next to him went pale, but Nick knew there was no time to waste.
"Evacuate, now! Before any casualties!" He waved at the door frantically, running himself.
"But the hard drives-" "Do you want to die?!" He countered the woman beside him, shaking her shoulders vigorously. She shook her head in response, tearing up. "I don't understand, how could this happen, why did this happen- this is completely out of it's normal behavior-" "Get a grip, Deyja! Your life is more important than a bunch of numbers!" He kept a firm hand on her shoulder as he led her to the door, the rest of the main team having done the smart thing and left by now, leaving only one trembling guard and two others still adamant on downloading the files.

"Adam, what are you doing-" "Go! I'll catch up!"
Nick ushered his co-worker through the door, prepping the lock to prevent the creature's escape. He glanced back at Varien, the one guy with a gun.
"Are you sure you don't want to come with us? You don't know what it's capable of."
"No, I signed up for this shit, I'll be right-" He cut off suddenly, choking on his breath. Nicholas suddenly had a horrible feeling.

"V.. Varien?"

A bit of blood seeped out from his mouth.
"Run."

Adam looked up from his screen, apparently able to see what was behind the guard. The clipboard fell to the floor with a clatter.

Varien flinched before a wet, ripping sound tore through the air, dropping to his knees with a wheeze. Adam was already rushing towards the exit, dragging his partner behind him as he pushed Nick the rest of the way through.
Nicholas was frozen, heart hammering in his chest.
It can kill.

The doors beeped, moving painfully slow as they slid shut. Varien whimpered, collapsing face-first to reveal the demonic thing on his back, burrowing into his flesh with wickedly sharp tips on it's nauseating bloody tendrils. Something crunched right before the doors closed. But the memory was there.
A single eye turning up to regard them blankly, nothing but hunger and mindless desire within it's yellow depths.
A sight that was engraved into Nicholas's memory, branded upon his mind.

What have we done.

Deyja sobbed beside him.
"It wasn't even supposed to be capable of mobility.." The woman hiccuped. "How did it move so fast and quietly?!"

"We don't know what it is." Adam murmured. "Now our lack of knowledge is biting us in the back."
Vomit continued to shoot out of Nicholas in an embarrassing chunky stream.
"We need to go on lockdown. Now." Adam ordered, ignoring his sick co-worker.
Deyja nodded shakily before taking off, tears streaming down her face as she ran.

This was the start of a really bad situation.
