Chapter 9

Cloudburst

"What?" I asked.
I though these were lilacs, not weed. What did he just say?
"You heard me right." he replied right on cue.

Damn psychics...

I swiftly glanced at him before looking back down; the glimmer of joy in his eyes were genuine.

He wasn't kidding, but why do I feel pain?

"I–I don't know what to say." I stuttered.
He fumbled around with his words, "N–no, no you don't have to say anything. It was all of a sudden, I too didn't know what was–"
"I'm going home, Gus..." I slowly stood back up, "Thanks for the company."
"Oh, let me take you home then–"
"Just stay here, please. I'll be fine."
He remained silent.

I grabbed my bag and went down stairs. I was about to leave their house unnoticed until Moira tapped me.

"Lemme give you a ride home." She gave a wink.
"I'll be fine by myself, thanks." I replied.
"You don't have a choice, I gave you the tickets." She crossed her arms.
Her logic doesn't make sense, but I'll entertain her for now.
"Are taking the truck?" I asked.
"Nope, I have my own." She clicked a button and a cute beeping noise came from the garage.
The gates open and there stands a car with working air conditioning.
"Come on." She gestured.
Why does she look bad ass? It's a mini van.

We drove out and Gus wasn't there anymore. Must've went inside already.

"Wanna play some music?" She asked.
"Got CDs?" I asked back.
"I have an AUX cabel?" She waved it around before handing it to me.
"Thanks." I said.
She gave a little smile.

I looked at my playlists but I couldn't find anything to fit my mood.
"Lo-Fi, maybe?" She suggested.
"You're a witch." I replied.
"A hot one, for sure." She rebutted.
We both laughed, and I did play some random lo-fi playlist I found.

We kept quiet during the ride. She tapped along with the beat, and I watched the trees and suburban houses pass by.

I felt butterflies flutter up and down my stomach, a familiar feeling I've been yearning for.

"Ugh!" Yza groaned, "I can't believe school's about to start next week."
"I can't wait for band practice." I replied.
"I mean, do we really have to go to school?" She hung upside down on the edge of my bed. "If you look at the richest people on this plant, most of them are drop-outs!"
"Are there drop-out doctors?" I asked.
"The billionaires are running the world! Not the government!" She yelled.
"Are there fast food workers who have a degree?" I sat down, "If so, is it about burgers?"
"But I do get to see Kaeya again..." She exhaled.
"What?"
"The system is corrupt!" She shouted before sliding off the bed.

Kaeya? She likes him?

"Wait, Kaeya? The trumpet boy?" I asked.
She stared at me like I'm a new comer to this planet before standing back up.
"Okay, for your information, it's a clarinet." She replied.
"Whatever, he blows." I roll my eyes, "You like him?"
"Yeah?"
"Why him?"
"Claudia..." She smirked, "...are you jealous?"

I don't like where this is going.
"No, I'm not."
Am I?
"You totally are!" She teased.
What is this feeling...
"You're turning red!" She points at me.
I curl up to a ball and pulled my hoodie.

Why am I jealous? Is it because she'll have less time for me?
No... she's a bestfriend, and he's just a boy. I doubt that she'll lose time for me.
Maybe she will? No...

"Cloud?" She let's out a chuckle, "I was just joking around."
I didn't even notice I was crying 'til she wiped my tears.
"I'm sorry..." She said.
"Don't be!" I shouted, "It's not your fault!"
"Then why are you crying?" She asked.
