Fairy Tale

We all live short
We all think big
We all fail small
But we don't all make it
See I'm not rich
I'm not some handsome prince
I'm not royalty
You're no princess
And this isn't a story
But let's take a recess
While I live in my imagination for awhile
See I may not be rich
But I've always been a prince
In my mind things are always more interesting fancy titles,
deadly dragons,
 knights with swords
  And princesses in towers
You're no princess to me,
see in my mind I'm a prince,
handsome and proud
And as a prince
I was presented with many beautiful women
Women with differing looks and personality
But I turned them all away,
Dissatisfied,
see as the proud prince
I needed a princess who fit
And one day I found you
Young and innocent
But scarred by your environment
I held out my hand and raised your to your feet
I placed a crown on your head and told you
You're beautiful and silly
You're smart and clumsy
You're innocent and cute
But most of all you're the perfect princess for me
See I realize that life is hard
That our worlds are so different
While I walk in my fairy tale
Who knows how you're fairing
But I believe I've told you before
That as always I have a door
And it's always open
I'm waiting for you to come in.
And on that day that you bust through my door
And when you throw yourself upon the floor
At my feet you beg, with the world against you.
I'll hold out my hand, as I always have.
And raise you to your feet.
And I'll tell you, "please don't beg, for I'm not worth the precious air from your beautiful lips."
"But I need you" you'll reply worried that I'm refusing you.
I'll clarify, "you don't need to beg for something that is already yours."
