Prologue

Cold, that was the feeling going through the young woman as the sun set. The dark forest got even darker with the lack of sunlight. As she ran her feet hit the damp leaves. She was losing hope and was very afraid she would not survive another winter. Her clothes had become rags, she had no shoes, and she was skin and bones. She had blood on her from several injuries and some of the wounds were infected. Mud covered her from head to toe.

She didn't pause when she heard a snap of a branch behind her. It just made her push forward faster as if there was something chasing her. The young woman now was not paying attention to her surroundings and because of this, she did not see the root that rose from the ground like a small hill. Tripping over it she fell against a jagged rock. Her head connected with the ground and everything went black.
