Annie could feel the muscles of her chin tremble like a small child, There's static in her head once more, the side effect of the constant fear, constant stress she lived with.
"Anna?" At the sound of her mother's trembling voice, It takes somethin...

It was almost painful for Anna to watch the stupidly, happy couple stood at the top of the isle, and she scowled when the minister declared them Man and wife. "Explain to me again why we're at a wedding." She said with a huff, glaring into the back of the married couples' heads. Thomas, the man that tackled her to the ground, was fixated on his pocket watch. She didn't know it, but it was just as torturous for him to sit through the ceremony as it was her, seeing as the love of his life had also slipped through his hands. They both felt that the universe was playing some sick joke on them.
"This is the only place for miles. Your poor timing was the reason I even missed-"
"Oh I'm sorry, was it an inconvenient time for you? I'll make sure it suits your schedule well next time." She stubbornly looked away, but she could feel his eyes on her face. Her snarky reply caused the corner of his lips to twitch up. He studied her face. There was a small cut on her forehead with smudged dry blood around it, a tiny gash at her cheek, dark ringlets formed under her eyes and she was almost thin to the bone, even then she was beautiful, that much was obvious. She somewhat reminded him of a younger Ada, a time before the war ruined everything, before his sister grew to hate him. He wasn't sure when he saw her but her fuck off attitude gave it all away, she was Pollys girl.
"I don't know what was going through your head back there," he starts again, "I really don't." He lied. He somewhat did understand.
She was pulled back, tackled would be more suited, by a heavy tight grip on her waist and her body instantly collided with the floor. The sound of someone falling to the floor with her, echoed in her ears and she turned her neck to see two pairs of cerulean blue eyes staring into her own.
It seems she wasn't alone after all.
"What the fuck are you playin' at?" The man yelled, his body heaves up and down at the unexpected adrenaline rush, Anna scooted away, her eyes glossed over as she gulped and attempted to stand, not tearing her eyes away from the man.
Birmingham.
He had a Birmingham accent, just like hers.
What would've brought her comfort, frightened her. Did they finally figure it out? Did the Parish come to take her to that stupid school for 'ignorant girls', the school she'd overheard mother superior talking about? Although looking at him, he certainly didn't look dressed to be one. That was enough to bring her guard down just a little, but she was still alone with an unknown man in some creepy, deserted, train station. She wondered if she'd somehow miraculously predicted her own demise.
He was up on his feet too, there was quite a gap between the two and Anna held her aching right shoulder, pinning the man down with her eyes. A man stepped out the train, asking if they were joining but neither replied, the train raced off not too long after, blowing a gust of wind through her hair, just as the lights hit her face, he could see the fresh cuts that lay there, one gash on her forehead and a cut on her cheek, just by her nose.
"I-" She couldn't provide him with answer, she didn't know how, she didn't even know the answer for herself. Her eyes dropped to his left hand which was clutching a small piece of parchment, she wouldn't have thought anything of it had she not seen the embroiled gold on the borders of the paper, it was the invite to the museum opening ... she remembered seeing Edison hand one over to the doorman.
"Did you follow me here?" She asked, more so demanded. There was an obvious pause in his expression, but he recollected himself, he guessed she must of caught sight of the paper in his hands and shook his head. "No? Then why are you here?" She raised her eyebrows. Her accent almost made him forget he was in Sydney for a moment, but after sweating in his suit all day, he knew it was damn near impossible to.
"Well it's a bit obvious, isn't it?" He referred to the tracks. If she wasn't shit scared she would've laughed, he made no effort to make his lie seem the least bit convincing.
"Don't fucking lie to me" She seethed. Perhaps her inner Alison had managed to crawl her way out of her, or maybe the day had just really took a toll on her. "If you're rich enough to get an invite to Paul Ronald's museum opening, you don't leave by train," She didn't know how she had it in her to laugh but she did, "Or did you think he let his fucking mine workers in on the party?"
His mind battled between two assumptions. She was either stuck up and angry or skint and bitter. There wasn't really an inbetween. In both theories, she was quite the perceptive one.
- The bride and the groom made their stupid exit and the rest of the guests were starting to clear out. Annie couldn't help but laugh at the irony of her willingly sitting in a church.
"What is it?" Thomas asked.
Her eyes circled around the room, staring at the stained glass and the Jesus on the cross, there was a small glint in her eyes, remember the memories, the ones she made with her sisters, she couldn't bear to remember the ones she repressed but it was somewhere in her mind, locked away. "Just weird to be back." She said. The reality was that religion had ruined most of her life, but without it, she would be stranded out in the rain, with no way of telling the time, grasping the wallet she stole and hoping she had enough for a ticket to get on a train she wasn't even sure would arrive. It was the only place providing the warmth that shielded her from the cold outside.
He noticed how her eyes kept darting back to the door, he guessed she was worried Daniel Semers would walk through it, the man who tied her up in that shed, there wasn't really a need for her to worry, he sliced his neck open and took his eyes. Though, he wouldn't tell her that. That'd make for a bad first impression, wouldn't it?
