Heart (1)
Kylie's POV
I would be lying to you if I said the last couple days had been joyous, that Dean and I made up and we were doing great.
The truth was the last couple of days had been completely uncomfortable, every time Dean would ask me a question or say my name I would be very short with him. The sad part was the poor guy didn't even know what he did that was so wrong. All he knew was his girlfriend was being a bitch, and every little thing he said or did set her off.
Hell, even Sam was getting a little uncomfortable, raising a brow at my outbursts. Shaking his head as I told Dean off, or putting up his hands in a defensive matter whenever I brought him into the conversation.
In all honesty, I didn't know what was setting me off. Maybe it was the heart to heart that I had with Dean that messed with my head, or maybe it was the fact that I was feeling strong and well enough to stand up for myself for once.
Whatever it was, I wasn't hating it.
I stepped out of the bathroom with freshly wet hair just as Sam came back into the room coming from the morgue, a small smile on his face when he saw me.
Dean was on his bed, cleaning his guns with his calloused hands.
Was I so messed up in the head that watching a man clean his guns turned me on?
"This lawyer guy the first heart-free corpse in town?" Dean asked, not even taking a glance in my direction, probably fearful that I'd rip his head off.
"First man." Sam pointed out. "Over the past year, several women have gone missing. Dead bodies all washed up later in the bay, too deteriorated to draw firm conclusions."
I made a face as I grabbed my hairbrush, letting the teeth of the brush go through the wet knots. "But no hearts?" I asked.
"No hearts." Sam shook his head. "They were all hookers working Hunter's Point. Now, cops are trying to keep things under wrap, but they're looking for a serial killer."
"And the lunar cycle?" Dean asked making me grin.
"Mm-hmm. Yeah, month after month, all the murders happen in the week leading up to the full moon." Sam agreed.
"Which is this week, right?" Dean asked almost like a small child.
"Hence the lawyer." Sam nodded.
"Awesome."
I rolled my eyes, stopping my motion mid brush. "Dean, could you be a bigger geek about this?"
"I'm sorry, but what about 'a human by day, a freak animal killing machine by moonlight' don't you understand?" Dean eyes lit up as he looked at me. "I mean werewolves are badass. We haven't seen one since we were kids."
"Okay, Sparky. And you know what?" Sam leaned forward in his chair. "After we kill it, we can go to Disneyland."
I let out a laugh, finishing my hair, tossing the brush to the side.
"You know what the best part about it is? We already know how to bring these suckers down." I watched as Dean pulled his bottom lip between his teeth, trying to hide his excitement as he held up a silver bullet. "One of these bad boys right to the heart."
I shook my head. "So what's our next move?" I asked.
"Talk to the girl who found the body." Sam nodded.
The victim's name was Madison, and she was more than happy to let us in. Probably because she was afraid to be alone.
"I don't understand. I already gave my statement." She shook her head, her dark brown hair falling around her shoulders.
