(HARRY'S POV)

"Niall! Let's go!" I yell through the house, trying to hurry him up.

We're running late, and he's notorious for taking his sweet ass time when it comes to getting ready to go anywhere.

Niall flew into LA a couple of days ago and has been staying with me while his house is getting renovated. He will be here for three weeks to do a few talk shows and work a bit in the studio. He just started writing for his first solo album, and he wanted me to sit in on some sessions to give him my opinion on the stuff he has so far.

I still haven't gotten used to not seeing the guys on a daily basis. They have all been off doing their own thing, working on their music or other projects, and I'm proud of them for it. But I still miss them. They became my adopted brothers, in a sense. We spent five years of our life with each other—living, writing, and performing together. It's been lonely since we took our hiatus.

And I am not good at being alone.

I just signed with Columbia Records and finally broke away from my old management team to work with Jeffrey Azoff, who has become a close friend of mine. I have also already written a few songs for my new self-titled album, hoping to release it this time next year. There has been a lot of pressure with making sure my first solo album is a hit because this sound is raw and all me and my stories. I don't know how I'll get over it if people don't like it as much as they liked the band's music.

But first, I need a band and a full-time co-writer that I can trust and also enjoy being around for extended periods of time once we go on tour. I can never be too careful anymore because people hear my name and try to use me to boost their own social climbing status instead of forming a real friendship. So that's what tonight is supposed to be about.

"Where are we going again?" Niall asks, walking out of my spare room, pulling a shirt over his head before pushing his dark-rooted hair back to sit on top of his head.

"Remember me telling you about that wicked guitarist I met the other night at that pizza place?" I ask, and he nods in response. "He has a gig tonight and told me to stop by so I can hear him play live before making him an official offer to join the band."

"Gotcha. Well, let's get a move on then." He grabs his phone and wallet off the foyer table and follows me out the door before we climb into my black Range Rover to head to the small venue.

When we get there, we find a table near the back corner of the dimly lit room like we always do, trying to stay out of sight from the crowd. It makes everything harder when we get recognized in public places because once the word is out, we usually have to leave. And tonight is about Mitch's set. I don't want to ruin it.

Niall and I order a couple of glasses of bourbon and wait for Mitch and his band to come out. I look around the luxury pub, taking in the dark wooden accents scattered between the bar, floor, stage, and the frames of the red leather booths. If I had time to actually go out to have a drink and relax, this is the type of place I'd love to come to. It's quaint and full of character.

"So, you said none of these people we're about to see are actually in a band? They just do this for fun?" Niall leans over as the lights illuminate the stage, taking a drink of his dark liquor.

I shrug. "I guess so. He said the drummer Sarah is a friend of his, and the lead singer just moved here to write. He said she is completely against doing this for a living. But apparently, she's some sort of musical prodigy. He said we'd love her."
