Riley heard a scream. She bolted up and ran to Elijah's room. When she got there, her son was sobbing and thrashing around underneath the blanket. Riley's heart broke. He was having a nightmare.

"DAD! NO PLEASE!"Elijah screamed. Riley assumed this was from the night at the school since Derek had almost died in front of him. Elijah screamed again. She knew she shouldn't touch him. She might startle him and he would hurt her or himself.

"Elijah, baby it's okay," She spoke, softly walking closer to him. "It's just a nightmare. You're safe." This didn't help. He continued to cry and thrash around while Riley tried to wake him by speaking to him. This continued for a couple more minutes. Riley trying to coax him out by saying soothing things to him until he woke up.  Elijah jolted up and looked at her. Tears evident in his eyes. Riley smiled at him softly.

"Mom!" Elijah exclaimed, his voice hoarse from all the screaming. He was terrified. Riley wrapped her arms around him. Elijah began looking around the room but was disappointed when he didn't find the person he was looking for. "Where's Dad?"

"It's okay, Elijah," Riley said while hugging her son. "He's not here right now. What was your nightmare about?" Even though she already knew, she was hoping to get him to talk about it.

"The night at the school. Can you get Dad?" Elijah wanted visual confirmation that Derek was okay.

"How about I call him?" Riley knew her son. Right now, he didn't want her. He wanted his father, but Derek hadn't spoken to her all day and normally he called at night to check on Elijah. Even when Elijah was scared of him he called.

"Yeah, I guess," Elijah asked unsurely. He was shaking still.

"My phone is in my room. I'll go get it." Elijah nodded and curled up into a little ball. Riley walked across the hall and grabbed her phone. Searching through her contacts she found his fairly easily. She clicked the contact and pressed the call button.

While the phone was ringing, Riley walked back to Elijah's room. The phone rang probably ten times before it went to voicemail. Riley closed her eyes, a bad feeling in her gut. She looked to Elijah who was looking at her expectantly.

"It went to voicemail, lijah. He's probably sleeping. We'll call him again in the morning." Elijah looked like he wanted to protest but then nodded. "Do you want me to stay in here with you tonight?" Elijah didn't speak he just nodded again. Riley crawled into the bed and Elijah grabbed on to her. He held her as if his life depended on it and Riley wrapped an arm around him and rub his back, soothing him back to sleep.

Elijah was asleep quickly because of the comforting feeling his mom was giving and the emotional exhaustion of the nightmare. Riley just laid and stared at the ceiling the whole night, praying that Derek was okay.

The next day Riley walked into the vet clinic. Elijah had gone to school, but not without a fight. He still hadn't heard from Derek, so he was getting more and more worried. Riley reassured him that his father was fine. That he was probably just sleeping still. He believed it, but she didn't.

Deaton was messing with something on the table. She saw something lying on the exam table. It was a human-like body on the exam table. They looked unconscious. She walked into the room and saw it was Scott. Her eyes widened.

"Deaton, why is Scott on the exam table?" Riley asked, confused. Deaton didn't even turn around.

"Scott was shot. I had to fix him up." After Deaton said that, Scott's eyes shot open and he jolted up. Deaton turned and looked at the now conscious boy.

"Welcome back to the land of the conscious," Deaton said, Scott stumbled a bit as he tried to stand up and the vet went over and put a hand on his shoulder and chest to steady him. "Hey, you doing okay?" Scott just sort of looked at him and leaned against the table. "Maybe you should sit down," Deaton said before the bell rang notifying them that someone had walked in the door.
