Annie could feel the muscles of her chin tremble like a small child, There's static in her head once more, the side effect of the constant fear, constant stress she lived with.
"Anna?" At the sound of her mother's trembling voice, It takes somethin...

It was a strange thing to feel homesick when you've never had a place to call home. Annie stood and stared at the battered grey door, her heart raged against her chest, and for a moment, she considered turning back and running. But she knew she couldn't, she'd waited too long for this moment and she wouldn't let cowardice ruin it.
With the little portion of courage she had in her, she brought a hand up and harshly knocked against the wooden door. There was silence on the other end, a nerving, deafening silence that only made the girl that more skittish.
Then she heard it.
There was shuffling, a loud thud and a small 'Ow!' accompanied with a string of curses and she bit her lip to conceal a small smile. It was then that Annie knew,
that you could become homesick for people too.
The door swung open not a moment later, revealing a disheveled Alison, her brown hair messily flowed down her shoulders and the bored expression on her face didn't last long. Her brain stuttered for a moment, she was blinking profusely, her lips parted until her jaw was practically hanging, no matter how hard she tried, the words escaped her and all she could do was stand there and gape.
She never expected to see that face again. Never.
"I'm not a ghost."
Alisons arms were thrown around Annie faster than she could comprehend it, she stumbled back and coughed, Alison had knocked the bloody wind out of her. "I had my suspicions when they started showing up asking questions but I never actually thought ..." Her words came out rushed and appeared to fade into nothingness as all she could do was cry into her shoulder.
Anna wrapped her arms around her tighter. "I'm home, Ali." She mumbled, she felt something dampen her shoulder and something tugged at her heart as she realised Alison must've been crying. "Why are you dressed like a boy?" She sobbed into her shoulder. Annie's body shook as she chuckled, the two started rocking side to side, refusing to let go. "There's so much to explain." She sighed, but she knew Alison would be there to listen.
Annie pulled them apart by Alison's shoulders, the sudden burst of energy confused Alison but she was far too ecstatic to question it. She wasn't alone anymore, she spent months thinking she'd lost them both, she spent almost a year grieving for the two of them, she spent so long trying to accustom to life without the both of them, but Anna was here now. Anna would be by her side. Anna ...
"Where's Elsie? We have to see her, we have to let her know!"
... Anna didn't know
She was practically bouncing off the walls, grinning from ear to ear, the cold provided a red tint on her cheeks and Alison couldn't help but notice how happy she looked in this very moment... that joyfullness, she'd have to be the one to crush it.
Alison shook her head. She wasn't smiling, not even a little bit.
Annie grew confused, her brows furrowed, the ghost of a smile still etched onto her features. "Alison?" She whispered, she smiled again, thinking she was playing with her, like old times. "Alison, come on. You're making me think of the worst." She laughed, Alison still didn't say anything. Anna caught the pitiful look in Alisons eyes, she shook her head and frowned. Alison wrapped her arms around the thin girl again, "Alison would you just say something." she managed with a trembling voice, she'd never been so nervous in her life as she waited for Alison to say something, and in a dismal way, she knew what the words would be.
"She's gone, Annie. I'm so sorry."
"No." Anna tried to writhe out of Alisons grip but she only held onto her tighter. "Wha- what happened?" She sobbed out, continuing to fight against her hold, "Shh." Alison soothed, still not letting go. "What happened?!" She repeated the words over and over again until it became incoherent, too encased with her cries and her screams as she thrashed around in her sister's hold. You have to to tell, y-you need n-need.-" She fell to her knees, hopelessly, Alison sunk down with her, her arms still enclosed around the girl. Anna eventually gave up you fighting and cried against her chest. "I'm right here." Alison would say, over and over again.
