CHAPTER 2

Salutatorian: Ai de Chavez

Napangiti si Ai nang mabasa ang pangalan niya sa list of graduates. She didn't aim to be an honor student but she thought it was a blessing that she did well in school. Bonus na lang na Salutatorian siya naka-graduate. Although for tha past months ay pinipilit isya ng Mama niya na i-aim ang pagiging Valedictorian. Hindi pa niya nababanggit sa mga magulang niya pero gusto niyang mag-take ng BA in Broadcast Communications. She wanted to work in a radio station. She thought that her love of music will be valuable in that field.

Habang palabas ng school ay naisip niyang i-text ang Mama niya. Nang hindi makatanggap ng reply ay t-in-ext niya rin si Kei. It has been days since her birthday and he was nothing but sweet to her. It was unclear on what their status is but the fact that he became sweeter  was a good indication.

Nang hindi rin siya makatanggap ng reply ay napagdesisyunan niyang puntahan nalang ito sa school nito. Buti nalang at enrollment period sa university nito kaya may rason siya sa guard para papasukin sa loob.

Too bad at hindi niya na maaabutan sila Kei dito dahil magtatapos na rin ang mga ito sa mga kurso nito. Naitanim na niya sa isip na sa UP Diliman siya magte-take ng BA in Broadcast Communications.

Nagtanong-tanong siya kung saan ang Business school para mahanap na niya si Kei. Tinitignan siya ng ibang estudyante dahil naka-high school uniform siya. Inayos niya ang backpack habang hinahanap si Kei. Nang tanungin niya sa Student council kung saan ito officer ay sinabi nitong nag-vendo lang daw ang binata.

Excited niyang tinalunton ang daan papuntang vendo pero napatigil siya nang maulinigan ang mga boses. It was coming from a guy and a girl. One of them belonged to Kei. Napalingon-lingon siya. It was one of the secluded parts of the building dahil nasa basement at nasa corner pa.

"So...are we on tonight, Keiran?" the girl asked.

Napalunok siya at isinandal ang sarili sa dingding. Hindi niya maintindihan ang nararamdaman. Parang hindi siya makahinga.

"Yeah. Your place or mine?" Kei said.

"Mine nalang. May malapit na bar doon. We can have a drink before we...you know..." the girl seductively said.

Napahawak siya sa dibdib niya dahil parang naninikip iyon. Tears are welling up in her eyes. Tumulo iyon nang marinig niya ang kissing sounds at ungol ng babae.

Nang hindi siya makatiis ay nagpakita siya sa mga ito. She was right. The image formed in her mind was nothing but right. The girl was on the wall and Kei was kissing her torridly. His hand was on her neck and the other was on her thigh.

She can't find the words to say. How can that be? He kissed her too that night. He didn't tell her he loved her but he was sweet and all that. That was not a dream she made sure of it. She made sure of it.

Nagbitaw ang dalawa at naiinis na nilingon siya ng babae. "Miss, hindi pwede ang mga high school student dito. Saka can't you see? We're in the middle of something here."

Her eyes were set on Kei. She was giving him time to explain. She wanted to hear something from him. Anything.

"Miss? Hello?"

Dahan-dahan siyang umatras mula sa dalawa bago tuluyang naglakad-takbo. She didn't know where she's headed to but she needs to get out of here. Wala na siyang pakialam kahit na may nababangga siyang mga tao. She was gasping for air when she reached the university gate. She hailed a taxi at nagpahatid sa mall.

She found herself in a cafe. Hindi niya nagalaw ang frappe na inorder niya. Nakatulala lang siya sa kawalan. Tinignan niya ang phone niya at wala pa rin reply mula sa Mama niya o kahit kay Kei. Ai guessed what she Kei felt was not really what she expected. The scene kept replaying in her mind.
