"Edmund?"

Edmund glanced up from his book, a small frown on his face as he stared up at his brother. "Yeah?" He murmered.

"You do know it's one o'clock in the morning don't you?" Peter said, not looking very impressed.

Edmund frowned and glanced at the small clock, before sighing and looking back at Peter, who had now sat down on the edge of his bed. "Sorry?" Edmund tried, shrugging his shoulders slightly.

Peter sighed. "You really need to go to sleep." He muttered, taking Edmund's book and placing it on the bedside table.

"I got carried away." Edmund told him. "I didn't realise what the time was, sorry."

"You don't need to apologise." Peter reassured him. "Just please get some sleep now."

Edmund nodded. "I will." He agreed, laying down and pulling the blanket up to his chin, before blowing out the candle. "Night."

Peter smiled slightly before running a hand gently through Edmund's hair and returning to his own bed.

If he was honest, he actually feared going back to sleep (having been woken up five minutes before by Edmund's reading), incase he all of a sudden couldn't breathe again. But before he knew it his eyes had started to droop, and within seconds, darkness had consumed him.

Peter sighed a little as his eyes flickered open, and he had to immediately bury his face against the pillows to block out the light, having not quite adjusted to it yet.

After a while though he managed to pull off the blanket covering him and swing his legs over the side of the bed.

Rubbing at his eyes he slowly sat up before glancing across the room at the clock. 8am.

Yawning loudly Peter moved his stare to Edmund's bed, expecting to find his brother still asleep.

But Edmund was nowhere to be seen.

Frowning and perhaps more than a little concerned, Peter stood and walked over to the balcony, but didn't see his brother. He then checked the bathroom, but when he once again couldn't find Edmund, he started to panick.

"I thought I told him not to go off by himself." He muttered under his breath as he quickly changed.

Grabbibg his crown and a cloak he left the room, walking down hallway after hallway until he reached the dining room, where Susan and Lucy were just sitting down at the table.

"Morning Peter." Lucy said happily, a smile spread across her face.

Peter gave her a small smile in return before glancing at Susan. "You haven't seen Ed this morning have you?" He asked, leaning against the door frame as he spoke.

Susan frowned a little. "No, I haven't." She replied. "Why?"

"He wasn't in bed when I woke up." Peter sighed. "He wasn't even in the room."

"So he's by himself?" Lucy asked, sounding a little worried, for she had of course heard that Peter didn't want Edmund going anywhere alone.

"We don't know that." Susan stepped in quickly. "He could be training with Orious."

Peter shook his head. "Not on a Sunday." He muttered. "That's the only day we don't train."

Susan frowned. "With Tumnus then?" She tried.

But Lucy shook her head. "He went back to his house to gather some things." She said. "Mr and Mrs.beaver went with him too."

"Well, I'm sure there are some other people he could be with." Susan said, trying to sound alot more positive than she felt.

Peter's heart was pounding by this point. "I told him not to go off by himself." He choked, nothing but fear in his eyes.

"He'll be fine Peter." Susan reassured him. "He's Edmund. He's probably in the library or out in the gardens."

Peter took a deep breath. "Yeah." He breathed. "Yeah you're probably right."

Susan smiled. "Why don't you just come and have some breakfast and I'm sure Edmund will join us soon." She suggested.

Peter clearly hesitated, but in the end nodded his head and took his usual seat next to Lucy, although he couldn't help but feel slightly uncomfortable about how the seat the other side of him was empty.

"Have you had any time to think over what happened yesterday?" Susan asked slowly, her voice sad.

Peter sighed and nodded a little. "Yeah, I had a think last night." He mumbled as he ate.."But I can't for the life of me figure out what they meant by the wand has been used."

"Neither can I." Susan sighed. "Why don't we go and have a look and see if there's anything in the library that can help us?"

Peter nodded, already starting to eat a little quicker.

"Actually, I reckon that's what Edmund's doing right now." Susan added, smiling gently at both of her siblings.

Peter seemed to believe this because he nodded his head and some of the worry actually faded from his bright blue eyes, Susan watching him relax considerably.

After perhaps ten minutes the three had finished eating and Peter stood from the table. "Come on." He said. "I want a word with Ed when we get to that library."

Susan and Lucy couldn't help but smirk. "He's nearly thirteen years old Peter." Susan said. "You can't wrap him in cotton wool forever."

Peter blinked at her and sighed. "I know." He muttered. "But I am kind of annoyed that he went off to the library on his own."

"I know you are." Susan said. "But we're going to find him now so everything's going to be fine, okay?"

Peter took a deep breath and nodded. "Okay." He breathed, before heading for the door.

But actually, everything was definitely not fine.

If the three children knew what had happened the night before after Edmund had fallen asleep... then they would be very, very worried.
