potters

Veronica got out of her house as quick as she could eager to get out of there and take out the ring before something bad happened again. Sophia Greengrass was covering for her, she hesitated a bit when Veronica told her she was going to stay with the Potters but she knew they were good for her friend so she was easily convinced.

Veronica soon arrived to Godric's Hollow and found the Potters residence. The house was quite big, clearly showing how wealthy the family was but not in the same way any of the pureblood Slytherin families did. The Potters house was not dark, it seemed more like cozy and light, perfect for a family. You didn't get shivers when you walked the steps towards the door and didn't get any feeling of superiority from the people who lived there.

Veronica hesitated for a few moments before knocking on the door. There she was, Veronica Riddle, Heir of Salazar Slytherin and niece of the most powerful Dark Wizard in existence, knocking on a Gryffindor's unproblematic family's door.

"Hey" The door was harshly opened to reveal James Potter, now dressed in more casual clothes and not in Hogwarts robes, she liked that.

"Hey James" Veronica smiled at him

"Here, come in! My parents are dying to meet you" James opened the door for her to walk in and took her suitcase from her hands

Veronica looked at the interior of the house, it reflected how the house looked from the outside, cozy. She saw a lot of pictures of James and smiled, there were a lot of pictures of herself in her house but not in the same way, James' showed how much his parents loved and adored him, hers were mere portraits showing no emotion but only how powerful her family was.

"I can see why you can't stop looking at yourself in the mirror" Veronica joked

"Oh! Yeah, my mom likes putting pictures of me everywhere, she says it's because she's proud" James explained when he saw what Veronica was looking at

"That's nice, I wish mine did too" She replied

A few moments passes until quick steps were heard coming down the stairs.

"She's here! Yeah!" Sirius Black appeared running down the stairs and jumped into Veronica giving her a tight hug

"Missed you too, Black" she laughed hugging him back

James smiled at Sirius and Veronica, he knew they were important for each other, but he was not jealous, Sirius would always be a friend to her.

"Sirius, let the poor girl breathe" a calm voice said coming from a room next to the hall

Veronica got out of Sirius' grip and as soon as she saw a woman she guessed was James' mom, she stood up straight with a perfect posture and passed a hand through her hair and clothes, trying to look as presentable as possible.

"Pleasure to meet you Mrs. Potter" Veronica smiled politely and offered her hand to the woman

"Oh dear, call me Euphemia" the older woman smiled down at the girl. Just a second later Euphemia Potter brought Veronica into a quick hug, taking her by surprise "I see you grew up in pureblood customs, huh? Just relax, sweetheart, we are not like that here" Euphemia smiled again making Veronica match her smile happily

Then a man entered the room, James' father, he seemed as nice was Euphemia as he showed Veronica a smile as soon as he saw her.

"I'm Fleamont Potter, welcome!" he said opening his arms and then shaking Veronica's hand

"Veronica Riddle" the girl replied politely

"Well mom, I think Veronica might want to unpack and all that" James said now that his parents had introduced themselves

"Sure! Show her the guest room" Euphemia said and so James started to walk up the stairs with Veronica right behind him "I don't want any funny business, James" she called out when they were already in the top floor and Veronica could hear how Sirius started laughing

"Mom!" James exclaimed making Veronica laugh

They finally got a room where James left her suitcase, it was quite nice, the room had a lot of natural light, something she didn't get a lot of at her house.

"Hope you like this room" James said turning around to face her

"It's perfect James" Veronica smiled at him "Your parents are really nice" she commented

"Yeah, just tell me if they are too much for you" The boy told her, he knew Veronica was not used at people like his parents.

"They are fine, I wish mine were like that" the girl admitted

"Yeah uh...my room is the door just across the corridor so if you need anything just ask me or Sirius" James said scratching the back of his neck

"Anything?" Veronica teased smirking and walking closer to him

It took a few moments for James to process what she had said but as soon as he did he rolled his eyes.

"Veronica" he said making her chuckle

"I was just joking James, relax" the girl laugh at his reaction and turned around "I should owl my brother and tell him I got here alright" she said

"Sure, I'll see you at dinner" James smiled charmingly at Veronica as he left the room

···

"Was the trip too long, dear?" Euphemia Potter asked as all the family and their guests had dinner

"Well I don't live in the West Country so it was a bit longer than expected" Veronica replied

"Oh! Where do you live then?" Fleamont asked curiously.

It was common that Wizarding families lived in the West Country and James had told his parents that Veronica was not a Muggle-Born so they became even more curious.

"Little Hangleton, a little village in Northern England" she replied

"A muggle village! That's so uncommon" Fleamont exclaimed but Veronica turned cold, it wasn't good when her family was associated with Muggles

"Don't worry, we don't have anything against Muggles, we just find them fascinating" Euphemia said when she noticed how tense Veronica had gotten

"We don't actually associate with Muggles, when we get out of the house we usually go to Malfoy Manor or Grimmauld place" Veronica replied sending a small smile in Sirius' direction who frowned at the mention of his old house

"You two knew each other before?" Euphemia asked

"We were good friends when we were little" The Slytherin replied

"Oh, what happened then?" the woman asked again and Veronica was left speechless, she didn't know how to explain

"Her family is just as...conservative as mine" Sirius spoke for her

"I see, well I can already tell that you're nothing like them" Fleamont Potter assured her

Veronica now felt someone grab her hand and looking to her side she saw James giving her a reassuring smile.

"We've heard great things about you from James" Euphemia commented making James groan

"Please mom, stop" James whined making Veronica and Sirius laugh

"I don't think there's a lot of great things to say about me" Veronica shook her head

"I can tell you what-

"Mom! please" James cut off his mother quickly

"Oh no please Euphemia do tell" Sirius said from across the table hiding his smile

"I hate you" James muttered looking at Sirius
