A day later, Doctor Pierce called a meeting with Stana, Molly, Seamus and Jon. The first thing he did was tell them all, "Nathan's MRI came back positive for swelling in the brain, the way we figured it might, which means this should go away once the swelling goes down."
"Is it serious?" Molly asked from her seat. "I mean, like, is it a serious swelling or just a regular kind if thing."
"It's a pretty severe case, I guess, but if he responds well to the medication, he could be better in as soon as a few days," the man insisted. "Of course, we'll be monitoring him to be sure the swelling doesn't go back up, but so far he's been healing very, very well."
Jon questioned, "So he's been responding well to the medication? How can you tell?"
"We've taken three MRIs including the first and the swelling has gone down."
"It has?" Seamus question.
The doctor nodded, "Yes, at the perfect rate."
"You said he could be better as quickly as two days?"
"Yes, ma'am," the doctor replied.
She ignored the ma'am part and continued, "And all of this Castle stuff will be over with?"
"Should be."
"Will he remember all of this."
"Probably." To Stana, she couldn't decide whether that was a good thing or not. The rest were mildly aware of the fact that it would make some fun teasing bits for him. They were all just kind of thrilled he was going to be alright, though.
"So, what do you want us to do?" Molly questioned.
The man swallowed and shifted, "Well, I feel it would be best if the four of you attempt to spend as much time with him as you can during these next few days until Mr. Fillion is back to knowing who he is. I mean, you four are the people he keeps seeming to want to see, so... spending time with him, maybe even playing along to some degree just a bit might be soothing for him and keeping him calm will help him rest and heal."
"Really," Seamus asked.
Jon added, "I'm in."
"Same," Seamus agreed. "Stana, Molly, you in?"
The girls were silent. As normal as this was for Seamus and Jon, to Molly and Stana this was something entirely different. Nathan thought Molly was his daughter, which wasn't terribly far from the truth, but it was still really weird. And Stana... she was not his fiancé. She cared about him, but far from romantically loved him. She- she had Kris. She and he weren't together. They were friends. That was it. And- she still couldn't stop feeling guilty about thinking about him all night. She was with Kris and- this would be so weird. She didn't know what to say. She knew she should have said no, but the opposite word flew out of her mouth. "Yes."
At the elder woman's absolute certainty, Molly firmly agreed, "Anything for him."
Stana agreed, being the only unmarried adult, to take the first run while the others filled in their family members on the plan. As she started into his room, easing through the door, finding herself unsure as to how she was going to handle this, he watched her with a full heart and up-turned lips. The sounds she was hearing in the background were familiar. To catch a glimpse, she wandered further into the room to see he was watching ABC's Grey's Anatomy. Looking back at him with a smile, she said, "I didn't know you liked this show."
He sighed. "I don't, I was just scrolling channels and- suddenly I saw your face. It was a commercial for what happened a while back, when you went undercover as this Alaina chick and-...," he paused, seeing the recognition in her eyes. "I guess I mean your character was under cover."
