Within

"The Truth is within you. Do not look for it without."

—Buddha

The living heart of Truth

Lies deep within,

By most but now and then

Its flicker seen.

If even we who

Know its light

Are sometimes blind,

To what is right

It should not surprise

The eyeless cannot see.

Let me for one have eyes to view,

And strength to seek, and luck to find

Simple, honest words,

Not a poet for the heard.

Let two things serve me best:

Clarity of mind,

And purity of heart

That somehow conjures

 Maudlin words to art.

And let not my efforts wane.

Let me draw you close

Tis not in vain I write.

Heaven knows,

Private art will not suffice.

Art must be shared

And unawares some magic do:

Art that leaves us not the same,

Art that cleaves us, makes us change

And seek the good.

I'd make this clearer

If I could.
