THE INVENTION

The Potter's car was really fancy but of course that was to be expected, Eva thought the family probably had more money than the Malfoys. She wondered did Sirius have a job, seeing as he was always around but thought it best not to ask.

As nice as the car was, five people was going to be a squish and she'd rather not be pushed up against Sirius or Harry but Eva didn't expect Lily to give up her seat next to her husband either.

It was better than walking, Eva tried to keep a positive mindset.

James fumbled with the boot, Eva couldn't help but laugh at the grown man who seemed as though he had never seen a car before. He apparently couldn't open the compartment, so continued to press random buttons on the keypad.

The whole family, Eva included felt second hand embarrassment. Not being able to witness another second of it, Eva offered up her services.

"Give it here" Eva ordered, opening her palm for the adult to place it in. James rolled his eyes, not ready to let his ego suffer.

"Fine but I swear it's broken-

Beep beep

"See look open sesame!" Eva handed the man back his keys and lifted open the hatch, placing her own bag inside.

"It's just pure coincidence-

"Mate get in the car before you embarrass yourself anymore, please" Sirius laughed at his bestfriend and began to push him into the driver's seat.

Eva stood quietly beside Harry who was making small talk with his mother, Eva quite liked Lily, she was kind and clearly very caring and not to mention absolutely gorgeous.

Lily grabbed Harry's trunk placing it beside Eva's own one.

"Harry" Eva whispered. Harry grinned brightly at the girl, it hurt Eva. She truly didn't believe she deserved all this kindness.

"Thank you, I mean it"

"Anytime" he responded nonchalantly. Sirius gripped his godson's shoulder throwing the lanky boy inside the back seat.

"Oi" Harry groaned as he hit the window, Sirius stuck his tongue out at the boy. Eva awkwardly walked towards the door of the car, Sirius was in the middle so she'd have to sit next to him.

Lily noticed her uncomfortable demeanor.

"Sweetheart you can sit in the front!" Lily said scrambling in after Sirius.

"No Lily I couldn't possibly, it's your car.."

"I insist"

Eva plopped herself beside James who was smiling at her strangely.

"Make yourself at home" he bursted out, his glasses dragging down his face. Harry face planted.

"Dad it's a car, not a house!" He sassed, earning a glare from his mother.

"He's only making a good impression Harry James Potter, so you stop it right now.."

"Is it normal for people to give their children their own names as the middle name or no?" Eva blurted out, shifting against the leather seat.

"Mine is the same as my dads" Sirius shrugged.

"Mine too!" Lily and James agreed with their friend. Eva nodded understandingly, she wanted a middle name as cliché as it sounded.

"Not very original though is it?" Eva said widening her eyes with sarcasm, in attempt to make them laugh. James sniggered as he turned the engine on.

"What's original then?" Sirius asked.

"Something like tree or um let's see- Eva looked around the car. "Window!".

Harry couldn't contain his laughter now.

"Who would name their child after a window Eva, are you barmy?"

Eva smirked at the boy, "well it's my new middle name, better get used to it Potter".

James smiled bitter sweetly to himself focusing on the road ahead as he drove, that wasn't supposed to be your middle name silly, he thought.

The traffic became quite conjested so they decided to play, eye spy. At first Eva had been hesitant not exactly understanding the concept but turns out it was sort of entertaining.

"I spy with my little eye, something coloured grey!" Lily spoke loudly for everyone to hear.

"Sirius' hair" Eva and Harry shouted simultaneously.

"Excuse me, i'm sorry but what did you say?" Sirius looked ready to kill his godson and possibly Eva. "I'll have you know I have the nicest hair out of all of you arseholes".

"Language" Lily glared at the grown man.

"You are getting old mate!" James laughed as he gripped the steering wheel.

"You're supposed to be my friend, James" he whined pouting his lips earning a shove from Harry.

"Baby, whiny little baby" Harry mimicked towards his godfather. Eva's insides honestly ached from laughing, anyone in the car could see the change of attitude.

So far the conversation had been funny, light-hearted and fun that was until James began to slowly drive through the more dodgier parts of London. He double checked the adress Eva had given him, a petrified look graced all their faces besides Eva who didn't seem a bit phased.

They continued to drive, the houses becoming smaller and most seemed to be almost derelict.

They pulled up in front of the scariest looking building James had ever seen and he had been to Sirius' childhood home.

"Eva this can't be it?" James turned to the girl hopeful, the silence deafening.

"Home sweet home!" Eva gasped, "why not at all up to your standards?" She joked, hating how quiet it had become.

James wanted to beg her to stay, even the usually opiniated Harry Potter was speechless. James wanted her to stay at their house, preferably forever but his wife would have his head if he sprung the news on her so abruptly.

"Will you be safe darling?" Lily asked in a rather motherly tone. Eva appreciated it she did but she couldn't help but feel as though they were judging her.

"I've been there for nearly seventeen years, i'm not dead.. yet" Eva offered as an answer, James looked horrified.

"Well thank you for the lift, safe journey home guys!" She smiled fakely, beginning to open the car door. James panicked he didn't want her to leave just yet.

"I'll help you with your bags!" James shot out of his seat ignoring the questioning looks he was receiving from his wife, his son and his best mate.

"Okay?"

Eva waited patiently as James unlocked the boot, maybe she was dellusional but it felt like he was taking too long purposefully. James lifted out the heavy trunk and handed it to the petite girl.

"I hope you have a good birthday Eva" he stated awkwardly, "you've been a good friend to Harry, i'm very greatful".

He internally cringed, he'd have to stop using Harry as an excuse to express his feelings.

"I'll try.."

Eva gave the man one last smile and began to haul her trunk towards the tarnished front door. She expected to hear the engine flicker on behind her.

"Eva!"

She spun around.

"Would you like to come to our New Year's Eve party?"

She frowned, no not really but Eva remembered their kindness today.

"I mean, I guess" she shouted.
