"I'm sorry that I did this. I never meant to hurt either of you, but somehow, I did it anyway. I guess I'm good at that."
You felt like you were going to vomit. But you forced yourself to keep reading.
"I'm so happy the two of you are friends, and I'm so sorry I got in the way of that. Maybe it would be better if I just took myself out of the equation for now.
Or...forever."
You frantically shook your head, looking up at Undyne. What should you do? What could you do? Whatever it was, the two of you had to move quickly.
You asked Undyne where the two of you should look first. Alphys couldn't have gotten as far as Snowdin or the capital city, but by now she might have made it to the other side of Hotlands. Especially with her knowledge of the area.
Undyne held her head with both hands. "I'm trying to think!" She exclaimed desperately. She was a little more collected than you were, but not by much. It was clear that both of you were quite frantic. But panicking would only waste precious time, time that you didn't have. You did your best to control yourself.
Undyne suddenly went rigid, her eye wide with some sort of unspoken realization. She viciously grabbed your wrist.
"Come on!" She shouted.
Before you could respond, she took off in the direction of Waterfall, dragging your helpless body behind her.
---------
"Alphys?! Alphys!" Undyne called desperately into the dark cavern.
The normally comforting neon glow of the water and fungi now lit up the area with an almost ghostly aura. You tried to shake off the fear of the worst as you also called for Alphys. You had no idea where Undyne was taking you, but you were looking in every possible direction. Undyne was too confident for Alphys to be anywhere else in the Underground; you just hoped the timid scientist was still around to be found.
As you and Undyne searched for Alphys, you realized the two of you were moving closer and closer toward the waterfalls without bridges. Rivers of endlessly flowing, ominously glowing water that cascaded over pitch-black rock formations, sending their contents into the dark unknown far below. This was the darkest corner of Waterfall, where one heard nothing but rushing water. There were no echo flowers, no plants or fungi growing, and scariest of all, no monsters to encounter.
It was the perfect place to disappear.
"Alphys!" Undyne suddenly shouted. The change in tone from worry to alarm snapped you back to reality.
You looked up, your heart stopping.
Alphys stood at the edge of the largest waterfall in the area, the loneliest one that merely cascaded down into nothingness. No one could see the bottom, no matter how well-trained their eyes were in the dark. One could throw a large boulder over the edge and wait for hours, only to never hear a splash. There was no way of knowing when or if it ended.
"Alphys!" You cried. So many emotions filled your voice that you could not even begin to try and comprehend them all. But none of them mattered right now; the only thing you could think of was the fact that Alphys' life was in danger.
Alphys jumped when she heard your voices, causing you to gasp so hard that your chest hurt. Thankfully, she was not quite close enough to the edge to slip and fall.
Not yet.
The nervous monster looked back, then slowly turned around. Her expression was a mixture of guilt and sheepishness that made her look so pathetic and helpless that your very SOUL nearly broke into pieces just from witnessing it.
