The British Columbian wolf is a subspecies of gray wolf which lives in a narrow region that includes those parts of the mainland coast and near-shore islands that are covered with temperate rainforest, which extends from Vancouver Island, British Columbia, to the Alexander Archipelago in south-east Alaska.

Habitat:

The British Columbian wolves once found in the greater part of British Columbia, parts of Yukon, Alberta, and southwestern Alaska.

Characteristics:

British Columbian wolves are one of the largest wolves. They weighed between 80-150 pounds, and had long coats which were usually black, often mixed with gray or brown.

They measured roughly 60 to 70 inches in length. It had similarities to both the Alaskan Interior wolf and the Northwestern wolf, though it usually measured smaller than both. 

Diet:

The British Columbian wolves feed on hares, birds, deer, , moose, caribou, elk and other ungulates.

Breeding:

British Columbian wolves mate for life. The females breed once a year, December through March. She will have a gestation period of 63 days and usually will have a litter of 4-6 pups. All members of the pack will help care and protect the pup, which aids in uniting the pack.

Status:

Endangered.
