"You're not like them." Janson whispers. "You're not brave. You're not courageous. You're definitely not a leader." Janson criticizes in my mind. "You're just a girl who wants to stop feeling the guilt of the world falling apart on your shoulders." Janson stares straight into my eyes. "Your just as stupid as you are oblivious. There's nothing left. No where you can create the antiviral. You're just dragging your friends down to death!" Janson yells. "You hear me Y/N! You're killing them! You're killing them all!"
Y/N's POV
I sit up, sweat pouring down my forehead, my hands clammy. There's still darkness around me, so I assume it's not quite time to wake up yet. Again? When will this stop? When can I be at peace with my own mind? I stand up as everyone in the tent continues to sleep. Heavy and soft snores throughout the tent. I step out of the flap, the bright full moon shining down just enough light for me to see. No clue as to what time it is, I see in the distance, the builders pushing the boat they made into the water. It's not a huge boat, but it's big enough. It has a white sail, wooden frame, even some decoration on the front. Is this even a good idea? I second guess myself within my mind. Is there really nothing left? Maybe Vince is right... maybe there is literally no one else left to help us. I suddenly start to think of Newt. His shaggy dirty blonde hair, his welcoming smile, his stupid British accent. "I wish you were here Newt." I say aloud. "I wish I made you stay back with Gally and the immunes back at the city." My heart starts to ache with a familiar pain. The same dull pain I felt laying next to his breathless body. "I would give anything," I start, "to see you again. To say it back. It say that I love-." "Y/N?" A voice whispers behind me. I turn around seeing Gally there with his squinted confused eyes. "Who are you talking to?" Gally questions stepping fully out of the tent. Did he hear what I said? I turn around thinking of something to say. "No one. Just go back to sleep." I mention. "But this is when I planned on waking up." Gally continues, "To prepare for our trip today." I sigh realizing it's not as late as I thought it was was. The rest of the camp will start waking up soon. "Sorry Gally. I was just thinking out loud." I admit as he walks up next to me. "We'll want to talk? I've got some things I need to tend to, but we can totally talk!" Gally offers. "I don't really need to talk, but I can help you with preparing." I inform the freckled boy. "Sounds good! Let me get something real quick." Gally says before walking back into the tent. I didn't need to talk. I was just thinking, and sometimes thoughts are better left unspoken.
Gally and I walk inside the kitchen to Frypan waiting for us. A bag full of enough food to hopefully last us the entire time we're there. "Here's this!" Fry hands Gally the heavy bag. "And these." Frypan adds handing me about a dozen canteens of water. "You're coming with us, right Fry?" I question as he nods. "Of course I am. The last few days, I've been teaching the newer cooks how to prepare everything while I'm gone. They're going to prepare breakfast this morning as a practice." The man informs walking back to his initiates. Without saying anything else, Gally and I walk out of the kitchen carrying the supplies Fry provided us with. We make our way over to the boat that the builders created for us. Once we set the supplies on the sand of the beach, Gally turns towards me. "I'm glad we're doing this." He mentions watching as the builders finish up the boat's interior. "Glad we're leaving?" I question. Gally nods, "I'm glad we're finally going to end everything." He stops for a second. "You think we're going to find people that can help us?" I ask as the freckled boy nods again. "I have hope." That's all I needed to hear. I know this is the right thing. I know that we can do this... we can find people that can help us.
A few hours have passed. The entire camp is up now. Most are gathered around the boat to watch us take our leave to the mainland. I have my backpack on with all of my equipment I'll need for the journey. Thomas, Minho, Gally, Aris, Jorge, Brenda, and Frypan all have their belongings as well. I watch as Harriet and Sonya walk up towards the group. I meet them halfway. "So?" I question the girls wondering if they're coming too. The blonde and the dark haired brunette glance at each other before placing the bags on their back into the sand. "We're in." Harriet announces as joy fills my heart. I wrap my arms around both of their necks as we group hug. "Thank you." I say with a smile. They both grab their belongings, and they walk towards the rest of the group. I watch as Vince walks up afterwards. "You sure I can't convince you to stay?" Vince questions one last time before I hug him. "Hey." Vince states as I let go. "Bring everyone back in one piece." Vince adds with a smile. "Thank you Vince." I smile. "Here." Vince holds out a pistol, "Take this." He hands me the weapon pointed down as I carefully take it from his hands. "You sure you don't want to come with?" I offer one last time before he shakes his head. "These people need me. Don't worry about us. We'll be okay. Get out there and finish this mess." Vince encourages pulling me in for one more hug. Vince let's go before walking back to the others to say his goodbyes. Out of no where, Matt and Landon walk up to me. "Good luck Y/N." Matt says. I smile as they both hug me at the same time. After saying our goodbyes, all of us turn around to board the ship. "Wait!" A tiny voice shouts. I turn around to see little Violet running towards me. I crouch down to he level as she breathes heavily, trying to catch her breath. "I wanted to ask you something before you go." Violet inhales deeply to completely catch her breath. "Yes?" I question. "Are you and the guy with the weird feet, Tom I think his name is," She starts off as I laugh a little. "Are you going to help the one with the weird accent save all of those kids? From Wicked." Violet finishes as I stop. She still remembers him. Still remembers what I told her so long ago. "Yes." I lie, "We are going to help him stop Wicked from hurting the rest of the world." I answer as her face lights up. I hate lying to her, but she speaks so highly of him. I don't want her to loose hope if I tell her the truth. Where he really is. What really happened. "I can't wait to finally meet him when you get back!" She jumps in excitement. "One more thing!" Violet reaches into her pocket and pulls out a necklace with a sea shell on it. "I made this for you." Violet smiles holding out the beautiful black necklace. I hold my hand out as she sets it in my palm. "It's beautiful Violet." I say as happiness fills my soul. I hold it out in front of me before tying it around my neck. "So now I'll be with you on your journey! Or the necklace will... you get the point." She smiles as I pull her into a hug. Her small arms wrap around my neck. She pulls away as I stand up. "Don't be gone that long okay? I don't want to miss too many of your daycare stories." Violet says before running back to the crowd next to Jonas. We all start to board the boat as everyone waves us goodbye. I walk next to Thomas as we both make it to the top deck of the boat. "Hey Y/N?" Thomas questions as I turn my head to him. "Do I really have weird looking feet?" Thomas asks referring to what Violet said. I roll my eyes laughing as I start to walk to the other side of the ship. "Y/N. It's a serious question." Thomas states worriedly following me. "Y/N. Do my feet really look that weird?" Thomas continues to try as we prepare for the journey ahead of us. The trip back to the scorched land.Third Person POV
"Good Morning subject A'5 otherwise known as Newt. How are you doing this morning?" Mason walks into an interrogation room questioning the younger man. "Still not talking huh?" Mason assumes after Newt has no reply. The leader sits down across the table of the subject as he's handcuffed to the tabletop. Mason sets down a clipboard with papers attached to its clip, a pen next to it. "Do you know why you're here Newt?" Mason interrogates the British boy as he sits in silence, anger washed over his face. "I already told you. I don't know where she is." Newt answers without taking his eyes off the metallic table. Newt appears tired as if he hasn't slept in weeks. "But you do." Mason argues starring at the individual. Newt locks eyes with the man in charge. "Even if I knew where she was, I wouldn't tell you." Newt refuses as the man in charge starts to laugh. "You know what's on the line here, right? Humanity as we know it!" Mason starts to raise his voice. "You'd sacrifice a whole generation for your little girlfriend?!" Mason adds with rage in his tone. Newt angrily stands up from his chair, "She's more than that!" He stands there starring down at the man. "She's worth my whole existence... Besides, I'm not the only one who'd sacrifice an entire generation for her." Newt adds referring to Ava Paige's Maze Trials. After a breather, Newt returns to his metallic chair. "They left you Newt." Mason tries to manipulate. "They thought I was dead." The British boy corrects. "And quite frankly I'd rather be dead then be here arguing with a twat like you." Newt mentions as Mason grows more impatient. "Do you know why we're keeping you locked up Newt?" Mason questions him slightly curving the course of the conversation. Newt remains quiet listening to what the man has to say. "You're a fugitive. In fact... you, Y/N, and Thomas are the most wanted fugitives in the United States. In the World at that." The leader informs the subject. "For?" Newt questions the man. "Multiple reasons. Breaking and entering, abduction of Wicked property, homicide." Mason lists the top reasons. "Homicide?! The people we killed were killers! They were way worse than we ever were!" Newt argues. "Not to mention Y/N being the most wanted out of the 3 of you." Mason informs as the British boy stops talking. "You Newt, you are immune, but you're not what we want. Yes, you survived an infection of the Flare... but Y/N. She's the answer to it all. The person we've been looking for all these years. The person that holds the antibodies to cure an infectious crank, do you know what people would do with that kind of power?" Mason questions the subject as frustration fills his bloodstream. "Power?!" Newt starts before being cut off. "Exactly! People would kill to hold the cure to the virus." Mason explains as Newt refuses, "No! It's a curse!" Mason laughs, "Wouldn't you do anything to be the answer to the problem killing the world?" Newt stares at the older man. The leader. "You're insane." Newt concludes. Mason stands from his chair, "You know where she is Newt! And I won't stop until I break you open." Newt stands from his chair as well, "You said it yourself Mason! I was unconscious for 3 months after Ava Paige's city fell. How could I possibly know where she is?" Mason stares into the boys eyes. "You know more than you're saying... and when we find her, you're going to wish you said something." The leader takes his clipboard and reaches for the door handle. "What are you going to do to her?" Newt questions the man as he faces the opposite direction. Mason grows silent for a moment. "You're going to wish you killed her." He concludes walking out of the room.
