"I'm about to beat this bitch up."
You may be wondering what drove our good friend, Brielle, to this point. You may think you know exactly what, but here's some backstory anyway.
*****
Brielle and Jack came back to the table with two trays of fruit juices and water for everyone. They passed them out before Brielle offered to take the trays back, except Jack stopped her and made her sit down, across from Luke and next to me.
We sat at a rectangular table for six, Brielle, myself, and Jack on one side, in that order, and Luke, Katlyn, and Mark on the opposite. How we ended up with Luke directly in front of Brielle and Katlyn across from me is beyond me. I heard the girl next to me take a deep breath before letting a small smile rest on her face.
"So, what's everyone thinking?" I relaxed knowing that we could definitely make it through this brunch and enjoy the theme park without another outburst.
"I'm thinking... it's pretty cool that you met the Markiplier and Jacksepticeye. I think it makes sense why you're so successful now,"
Was Luke actually being nice to Brielle?
"I just never thought of you as the kind of girl to sleep your way to the top."
Nope.
"Oh yeah? I never thought of you as the kind of guy to let himself be so butt hurt over one girl, you cry yourself to sleep every night and turn into some high school slut,"
"Oh god," I rubbed the temples of my head as the two started quietly jabbing each other with insults. They kept the smiles on their faces, but the look of death was still apparent on both. I couldn't look at either of them, so I kept my gaze fixated on Katlyn, who was just enjoying the view. I stared at her, hoping that she would help me in, somehow, trying to stop these two, but she continued looking at the menu like this was music to her ears.
I rolled my eyes and decided to just take matters into my own hands. I thrust my foot forward and kicked them both, earning whimpers of pain from them.
"Ow,"
"Y/n, what the hell?"
"Shut up! You two are being really immature and need to stop. Just order and eat in silence!" I hissed at them and they threw their menus up, while the rest of our party awkwardly waved a waitress over.

Surprisingly, the rest of the brunch went smoothly, although a little quiet.
It felt like we had just met each other for the first time again. The only conversations we had were simple and polite, never diving into anything too personal or lasting more than a few minutes. Basically, small talk.
Brielle stayed silent for the majority of brunch, only piping up to order her food and excuse herself once to go to the bathroom. Other than that, we barely heard a peep from her.
At the end of brunch, we cleaned up our mess and made our way outside of the restaurant. We stood outside the restaurant; Mark, Brielle, Jack, and I on one side and Luke and Katlyn across from us. It looked like this was where we were going to finally part ways.
"Well, guess this is it. Bye, Luke." I refrained from saying anything else because I had nothing else good to say about him. I didn't wanna lie about it being nice to see him. Cause well, it wasn't.
"Yep, bye!" Brielle said her quick goodbye and moved from the group. She stood a good distance from us and just waited for everyone to say their farewells.
I turned around to start walking towards Brielle, the fantasies for how the rest of this vacation would go started to race through my head and the smile on my face grew. I felt the skip in my step get interrupted by a firm grasp on my wrist that made my heart stop.
I'd felt this before. I knew who it was.
"What, Luke?" My voice was fast and quiet. I wasn't entirely sure he heard me. I definitely knew everyone else didn't.
"I just- Y/n, I am... so sorry for what happened all those years ago. And I know I can never make up for what I did because what I did was such an asshole thing to do, but I... I want to redeem myself. I want to make it up to you."
He kept his grip on my wrist firm and steady, while I was trying not to collapse into a frantic mess. It was so tight I couldn't even see my hand shaking, but I could feel it. Despite the panic, I couldn't stop my furrowing brows.
"What are you saying, Luke?"
"I want to make it up to you. I want to earn your apology. So... can we, I don't know, spend these next few days together and I'll prove myself to you?"
"What?"
"What?"
"WHAT?"
Everyone's attention was on us now. And trust me on this: You know you're in trouble with your Latina best friend when she starts screaming at you... in Spanish.
"¡ESTAS LOCO! ¿QUE PASA CONTINGO? ¿QUIEN TE DEJO CAER DE CABEZA CUANDO ERAS UN BEBE? CREES QUE PUEDES IRRUMPIR DE NUEVO EN NUESTRAS VIDAS, CASI MATAR A Y/N CON LOS ATAQUES DE PANICO QUE LE DISTE, Y LUEGO MOVER LAS PESTAÑAS Y DESAPARECERÁ? ¡ESTÁS LOCO!"
The whole park went silent.
Or at least it felt like it did.
"I did not understand a word of that, but she does not sound happy-"
"OF COURSE I'M NOT HAPPY! Y/N," The violet-haired woman came in between the man holding my wrist and I in a fiery rage. She pushed Luke away, causing him to let go of my wrist as she started her violent poking of his chest.
"You stay away, and YOU!"
I stopped rubbing my sore wrist and listened to the Latina in front of me hiss in a quiet rage.
"I really hope you're not considering this,"
"Brielle, I-"
"Listen, Y/n. I love you. So, so much. But do you know how STUPID it would be to let that guy back into your life? To let him back into your head? And your heart? You know what he did! He broke your heart in ways that have taken almost ten years to fix and letting him back in will just leave you broken again! Please, Y/n, get rid of him."
I saw the desperation in her eyes. I knew she cared about me and all her intents were honest and genuine. But I couldn't fight my 18-year old self wanting a better ending to my first love story. Or at least, I didn't want to hate him anymore.
He was what was keeping me back from loving anyone else ever again. This eternal grudge I've kept against him all these years has been the weight in my pursuit of happiness. Maybe... if I forgive him... I'll finally have the closure I need to start a new life.
One with love and happiness and no jumping every time someone touches my shoulder.
"I need closure, Bri. I think I can forgive him, if I just give him a chance... Maybe you can too?"
I walked past her paralyzed state towards Luke, who had everyone else behind him, watching intently like the good audience they were proving to be. Luke looked at me with a weird glint in his eye as he waited for this answer.
"You can join us."
And from very quietly I heard behind me:
"ᴵ'ᵐ ᵃᵇᵒᵘᵗ ᵗᵒ ᵇᵉᵃᵗ ᵗʰⁱˢ ᵇⁱᵗᶜʰ ᵘᵖ."

* Translation *
YOU'RE INSANE! WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH YOU? WHO DROPPED YOU ON YOUR HEAD WHEN YOU WERE A BABY? YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST BARGE BACK INTO OUR LIVES, ALMOST KILL Y/N WITH PANIC ATTACKS YOU GAVE HER, AND THEN JUST BAT YOUR EYELASHES AND EVERYTHING WILL GO AWAY? YOU'RE CRAZY!
