Everything was a mess right now.

Around us nurses and doctors kept walking back and forth as they attended to the other patients in this emergency room, men in black and blue uniforms are writing down on their notepads the information we are giving them about what just happened, even if we still haven't fully understood the previous events. It is hard translating into words what we just experienced, no one should go through something like we just did.

Harry hasn't spoken more than a few words since we arrived at the hospital, I was doing all the talking. He was here physically but his mind was wandering around, probably still too shocked to come to terms with what happened. The last place he wants to be is here, and I can't blame him for that.

He just lost his mother, Claire died in front of our own eyes before we could even help her.

She died on my arms, I think it is an image I will never be able to forget. Her eyes were trying to reach out for her son, she risked her life to bring him to us, to safety. All of that effort was in vain, we lost Claire but we also lost Collin.

Part of me was hoping he would be found soon, Howard was a searched man, after all, surely he wasn't going to be able to run away for too long before someone caught him, right?

Two hours later, and a massive police search on them, there was still no clue of where they might be.

How is it possible? I had given a very rough description of the car I saw through the window, Harry's only words were also to describe he vehicle since he managed to see it much more closely than I, getting the licence plate number and letters. The police said that it was a fake licence plate as it belonged to a different car far up north in the country.

We were on a dead end.

They had the borders under close supervision as well as every main road in the country, they were looking everywhere for them but as time passed, I was afraid the chances of finding Collin was getting smaller and smaller.

Before we could even leave the warehouse, it was clear none of us was in the right condition to drive all the way to the hospital. Harry didn't want to go, he just wanted to get into his car and begin a pointless search for Howard and Collin who left no trace behind. Looking at him it was clear he couldn't keep going without having his own wounds tended, especially after Howard had shot him in the arm. The wound was getting very ugly, also he had lost a considerable amount of blood, he needed urgent care.

Besides, we couldn't simply leave Claire's body behind just like that. So I called the emergency number and tried to explain everything as clearly as I could even if they didn't understand a single word I said due to the tears who insisted to fog my visions and the sobs which prevented me from speaking coherently.

They were quick to send a team of ambulances and police officers to us, but they quickly called it a crime scene and they would need all our reports to figure out what had happened. It was at that moment Harry completely shut me away from him and what was going on inside his head. He refused the paramedics help even if he was in great pain, and it was with a lot of effort they managed to get him inside the ambulance.

Claire's body was also taken away, none of us was brave enough to look at it as they were doing it. Seeing her lifeless body being removed as if it was a simple object was too painful. The woman who once was so full of life, full of hopes and dreams, was dead. Claire deserved a happy ending, but she got the saddest and most unforgiving ending of all.

She deserved so much better than that.

I ended up wishing the bullet had hit me and not her. Her two sons need her so much, they were ripped off so many things in the past, but they always had their mother. Through her ups and downs, she was always there for them, she wanted nothing but the best for Collin and Harry and also Isabella who probably will never know her mother died.
