Laurel Grass (4)

Its seed pod like laurel
A braid, a crown of green
Laid upon the fallen trees
Like a lonely coronation

Only in rain and violent winds
Can it spread its seeds to bloom.
Every season is a great glory
To be born anew in triumph

The grass like laurel is victory
From gales and torrents and burrs
It rises to sit its throne again,
A blade to ride once more.

Author's note: fourth installment of symbolism series! As a kid, I had a little clearing in the woods that my friends and I would visit. To show we'd stopped by, we'd leave a blade of quackgrass on a tree stump. This grass has a similar alternating pattern to laurel leaves and it meant I'd made it through the bramble into my clearing, so I imagine it like a tiny laurel crown for a tiny victory. Symbol: quackgrass as victory laurels.
