For a Better Tomorrow

Eleven-eleven reads the clock
Chiming away in my chest.
Here I recite my eternal longing:
I wish for a better tomorrow.

Beyond the window, a crescent moon rises
And the first stars begin to shine
Upon them too, I lay my dreams:
I wish for a better tomorrow.

And in the dunes, midnight above,
There's a streaking light in the heavens.
'I wish for a better tomorrow,' I say
For today will surrender to the next.
My wish fulfilled, in any regard,
Makes tomorrow a better day.

Author's note: more drabble than poem, wishing upon 11:11 and shooting stars was a habit of mine as a kid.
