Cold crunching under her feetLight steps into the unknown
Running her hand down the bark
Pushing past it to walk farther
Alone in dimming light
Not yet to be sunset.
Reaching closer to the center
Everything freezes
Silence.
She takes a deep breath
Wind starting up
Leaves flow past her
Breeze skimming her dress
A pale petal in fallen leaves
She walked farther
She forgets herself in the textures
Faster, she gathers her dress
Hopping over stones
Water flowing like her hair in the wind
Coming to thicker forest
She can't walk.
Climbing
Up, she climbs against the setting sun
Farther,
the wind feels below her now
Dense branches
A flow of white in the zig zag of greens
Reaching past the eye
Above, into a peaceful sky.
Silence.
