The evening of Marvolo's detention, Marilyn waited for him (and Harry wh had detention at the same time) to enter Umbridge's office before she sat down cross-legged on the floor outside the door. She had brought two bowls of Murtlap Essence that she intended to give to both boys when they were done. James Potter had furiously told her exactly what it was being done to his son in those detentions he preferred to call torture sessions.

Marilyn was furious and had immediately gotten the Murtlap Essence for both her brother and Harry, not wanting either of them to be in pain. How could someone be so vile and sadistic as Umbridge? She was almost as bad as death eaters.

After several hours through which Marilyn drummed her fingers on the stone floor or had the occasional conversation with a ghost-minus James who sat silently next to her-the door to Umbridge's office opened and Marilyn flew to her feet with both bowls of Murtlap.

Harry and Marvolo emerged looking equally pained and angry before they both halted in their tracks at the sight of Marilyn, whose eyes were darker than usual in her anger.

"Mary? What are you doing here?" Marvolo asked, attempting to hide his bleeding hand behind his back; Harry quickly followed suit.

Marilyn ignored the question and wrenched both of their hands out from behind their backs and shoved them into the individual bowls of Murtlap. The two boys let out a sigh of relief at the same time as they felt the soothing effects of the concoction she had provided.

After a moment, they both looked back up at Marilyn whose expression was hard as she glared furiously at the door to Umbridge's office.

"Personally, I'd suggest getting revenge the Slytherin way," suggested Tom helpfully, from where he was leaning on the wall beside the door.

Marilyn's eyes shifted to his questioningly so he continued, "Act like a model student in front of her but plan something behind her back that ends up bringing about her downfall," he elaborated helpfully.

Marilyn stared at him thoughtfully. It was a very Slytherin-like thing to do, but then, she was a Slytherin by blood and she could definitely act like it sometimes. She decided she would take Tom's advice. She would just need to talk to Hermione...

"Mary, what is this?"

She was snapped out of her plotting by Marvolo's voice and her stormy eyes snapped to him.

"Essence of Murtlap. It helps heal and soothe cuts like those," she said, gesturing to their submerged hands. "Keep your hands in it for a while or it won't work."

Marvolo and Harry nodded gratefully.

"Thanks, Marilyn," Harry said, making her eye him with mild surprise. He had never spoken to her before. "You didn't have to get me some too and you did..."

Marilyn's lips pursed as she studied the son of the ghost she knew so well, "Of course, I did. And should you ever have detention with that evil hag again, you shall come straight to me." She said primly.

Harry gaped slightly at the fact that Marilyn had just called a teacher by a foul name. She definitely didn't seem the type.

"O-oh, uh, okay." He stuttered and she nodded shortly.

"I'll know if you don't." She warned.

She then turned to her brother and hugged him, careful of his hand, before turning on her heel and walking the opposite direction of the way the two Gryffindors were going so she could return to Ravenclaw Tower. She had plotting to do...
