y/n l/n stepped outside her apartment door to examine the package left on her doormat,
only to realize it wasn't hers.
"dr. spencer reid"
it read in black, bold letters.
y/n wasn't entirely sure who spencer reid was,
considering she was new to virginia as about a week ago.
the address, though, was printed for the apartment across from hers.
she took a few steps forward to reach it,
then knocked against the door rhythmically.
the door opened to reveal a man who was significantly taller than her,
so much that he practically towered over her.
y/n couldn't help but to admire his features.
his smile was faint but y/n could see the perfection in it.
"do-do i know you?"
"oh! sorry, no. i live across the hall. your package was delivered to my front door. so, thought i'd make sure it's actually delivered to you."
"oh, right. thank you."
"yeah, not a problem, neighbor."
spencer let out a soft chuckle as y/n turned on her feet to return to the comfort of her apartment.
but spencer quickly spoke up,
"um, your-your name?"
y/n turned back to face him with a smile,
"y/n l/n."
"spencer reid."
"nice to meet you, spencer."
"likewise. s-so you're new?"
"i am. you should show me around sometime, if you're not busy."
spencer stood there rather shocked,
wondering why a girl as beautiful as y/n would waste time with him.
the two lingered there for another moment or so,
spencer trying to figure out a way to answer her,
before his phone beeped within his pockets.
he pulled it out to read the text from garcia,
then looked back to y/n whose face resembled that of serenity.
"i've...got to go."
"right. i'll see you around."
he nodded and went on his way to the bau,
but leaving with a genuine smile stretched to his lips.
he wasn't sure what it was about y/n.
for someone who had an explanation to any and everything,
not being able to put his finger on it was rather frustrating.
but, yet, he allowed himself to indulge in this foreign feeling.

when spencer and his team sat in the silence of the jet,
he couldn't help but wonder back to y/n and if she was genuine about her request to tour the city.
spencer hadn't had much dating experience,
not that it mattered to him anyways,
but a girl like y/n was sure to expect someone with potential in specific areas.
"what's got your mind, kid?"
derek asked from the seat across.
"uh, i met a girl today."
"oh, did you, pretty boy?"
derek chuckled,
but spencer only shook his head,
"not like that. i mean she's-she's beautiful, but.."
"but you think she won't like you?"
"mhm."
"well, it doesn't hurt to try."
spencer looked back outside the window and down to the clouds below them,
and sighed heavily.
he rarely knew anything about the girl.
much less about her standards or type.
spencer felt confused.
he was one for knowing,
and having knowledge by the textbook.
yet this decision here would have to be one of faith.
and would it be worth it?

y/n sat in her cozy apartment that smelled faintly
of the plants she had resting on the windowsill,
and let her head rest against the frame of her couch.
coming to virginia to restart her life, free of stress, had been working out perfectly until she laid eyes on spencer reid from across the hall.
y/n had always been one to believe in happily ever afters,
except they didn't exist for her.
still,
she couldn't shake the image of his matured, flawless features from her mind.
groaning aloud,
she turned the tv on to distract her,
but she knew she couldn't escape him.

spencer returned home about two days later,
and was suddenly staring down y/n's door.
all the free time he got during his trip was spent thinking of y/n.
spencer had noticed the little things about her.
the chipped nail polish against her fingernails,
the necklace that laid beautifully wrapped around her neck,
and the gentle pieces of hair that she tucked away when she felt intimidated.
the silent beauty.
and she was a perfect image.
he knocked against her door,
smiling at the faint music that played from her apartment.
it stopped,
then the door soon opened.
seeing her again had been like a breath of fresh air to spencer.
"oh, hey i-"
"i was wondering if you'd like to get something to eat."
y/n stood there for a moment before nodding,
"i'd love to. let me get my coat."

spencer and y/n found themselves in the center of a lovely restaurant that they both had been seriously underdress for,
but their smiles remained giddy with excitement.
y/n blushed at spencer's stare,
which he quickly took notice to.
"i'm sorry. i-i don't mean to be weird."
"no! you're fine. i'm just..not used to this kind of attention,"
she admitted with a chuckle.
spencer found it hard to believe that someone so stunning as y/n hadn't received this kind of admiration before.
"so, you came back kind of late,"
she stated.
he nodded,
"it was a quick case."
"right...case. you're a lawyer?"
"no, i work for the fbi."
she gasped,
"are you even allowed to tell me that?"
"no, not at all. i have to take you in now. you'll probably have to be jailed for life. actually, they may even have electroshock performed on you to completely wipe your memory."
y/n's mouth remained agape.
leaving spencer to chuckle,
"i'm-i'm joking. that was a joke."
the girl took a moment before letting out a quick laugh that made spencer's heart stutter.
"your sense of humor is....warped. i like it."
"t-thank you."
he looked around the restaurant for another moment or so,
letting the nerves fill his core up.
when he turned to find her eyes again,
he found himself lost in the beauty of them.
the years worth of wisdom and hope.
"so, what do you work in?"
he asked.
y/n finished her sip before nodding,
"mm, between you and me? i work in producing and selling products. specifically, heroin."
spencer choked on his water for a split second in worry,
then watched as her face fell into laughter.
"oh my god, i'm joking. i'm sorry."
"n-no, no. it was funny."
"mhm, i can see you're so amused."
spencer let out a light chuckle before she continued,
"i'm in the process of finding a good place to work. it's been a long week."
"why'd you move here when you have little to nothing?"
y/n shrugged,
"i needed fresh start."
"bad home life?"
"not entirely. just not as healthy as one should be."
"ah, i understand."
"mhm. thank you, by the way."
"for-for what?"
"being here with me."
***
spencer laid awake that night and stared at the ceiling with a wide smile.
these past few days had been spent with y/n over dinner,
and he had never felt so alive.
the blood in his veins hummed at the thought of her,
and he was finding it hard to keep away from her company.
spencer hurried to his feet and headed across the hall,
despite the time,
and knocked on y/n's door.
"you okay?"
she asked once she opened the door
sleep still in her eyes.
he nodded,
"yeah, fantastic, really."
y/n opened her door a little wider,
"would you like to come in, doctor?"
he nodded with a laugh and stepped in to reveal a cozy home that much reflected y/n's personality.
it was decorated right down to exactly how he knew her.
he looked at the bookshelves on her wall and smiled,
"you know you can tell a lot about a person by what they read? you read a lot of fiction. romance, to be exact."
she stood beside him and examined her shelves too,
"mm, is it such a crime to want to believe in a world where true love exists?"
"not at all. in fact, eight-four percent of women are avid romance readers. sixteen percent being men."
"are you a part of that statistic too, doctor?"
spencer shook his head,
"not necessarily. i'm more of a factual kind of reader. see, i prefer my reading to be entirely based on true events. if not, then i read the classics, you know?"
"classics? like...huckleberry finn?"
she laughed while sitting herself on the couch.
"oh, so, you're a fan of mark twain?"
"doctor, did you wake me up at two am to talk about mark twain?"
spencer chuckled sheepishly then shook his head,
sitting next to her on the couch.
"no, not at all. i just...i wanted to see you, is all."
"well here i am."
spencer and y/n indulged in a conversation that kept them awake for hours.
neither of them wanted to part ways,
and spencer wanted to keep y/n around for as long as possible.
y/n,
after raving about how good the movie "twilight" is,
soon popped it in for them to watch.
fifteen minutes was spent between spencer debunking the myths and y/n reminding him that, "the creativity of it all is what makes it appealing."
but soon,
she fell limp into the cushion of the couch,
and rested her head to his shoulder.
spencer couldn't fight the smile begging against his lips.
so he allowed it to widen until it nearly hurt his cheeks.
and after a while,
the lack of sleep caught up with him too.
he laid his head to rest against back against the frame of her couch,
and together they dozed off as one.

when he woke up again,
his legs were stretched to the length of her couch with a blanket covering him.
he found himself quite comfortable and warmer than he had ever been,
but it wasn't until he shifted his arms that he realized just why.
there y/n laid,
her backside to his chest in the most comfortable way possible.
this leap of faith he took with the girl was finally beginning to pay off,
and life had never been so blissful.
