"come on! you have to get out more. those good looks of yours are going to waste, being cooped up in your apartment all the time!"
spencer stood with his arms crossed,
now facing penelope who was standing inside his apartment.
"i can't, garcia, i have-"
"aht, aht. i'm not taking no for an answer."
spencer sighed in exasperation,
but it was impossible to keep a stoic face in front of penelope.
"fine. let me grab my coat."
"yay!"
spencer could hear penelope clapping as he walked to retrieve his coat.
"where are we headed?"
"the mall. they're having a huge sale and i need to freshen up my closet some!"
spencer only laughed at this.
penelope's spending on brighter, flashier clothes would always make him smile at least a bit.
she had something she was passionate about.
if spencer couldn't have that sort of love for life,
he was glad somebody else could.
not that spencer hated his life.
he was just merely bored with it.
always doing the trivial things outside of work:
reading, solving, humming.
but there was never anything to make his heart race in anticipation,
nothing he had to look forward to.
a life of simplicity.
when he tuned back into the world around him,
he realized penelope had gone on a tangent about the quickness at which her favorite articles of clothing would sell.
"i'm telling you, if you're not inside the store the second they open, everything you want is gone."
"well it's a good thing we're arriving early,"
spencer added with a smile.
he hadn't been expecting so many people to be crowded around the store once they arrived.
it seemed everyone else in their town had the exact same idea.
"you've got to push the front. it's fine, come on."
penelope took note of spencer's apprehensive face and grabbed onto his hand to guide him.
by the time they entered the store,
spencer had already been socialized to the max and sought for the comfort of his own home.
up until the caught the cashiers eye.
"oh,"
he mumbled to himself,
mesmerized by the sheer beauty one could harbor.
"she's pretty, isn't she?"
penelope asked by his side,
sprouting a teasing smile.
"definitely."
"well, go say something!"
penelope gave the boy a start,
and he was soon on his way to spark conversation.
except,
spencer was already beside himself with nerves.
he found himself so enthralled with the ethereal nature she held,
that he didn't think his words were good enough to be spoken.
"looking for anything?"
she asked with a voice made of honey.
spencer felt his cheeks rush with crimson blood.
"uh...n-no, not really. just here with a friend."
"you're here with penelope?"
"yeah. coworkers."
she nodded with understanding.
"that's cool. i'm y/n l/n."
"spencer reid."
y/n stuck out a hand to shake,
which spencer took gently.
how strange it seemed that this exchange of caress made his heart race.
"nice to meet you,"
she said with a shy smile.
"believe me, the pleasures all mine."
spencer couldn't believe the words,
as flirtatious as they seemed,
had come from his lips of inexperience.
when he expected y/n to ridicule him,
he watched in amazement as her smile widened.
when they broke apart,
y/n returning back to the customers lining up,
spencer stood aside and continued to make conversation.
he couldn't quite convince himself to do much more.
"so...what's that pin on your shirt mean?"
y/n looked down at her pin and answered,
"my pronouns. she/they."
"oh...nice, nice. so-so i'd say 'y/n, they have wondrous eyes.' right? or...something like that."
y/n giggled quietly,
but spencer heard it in all its glory.
even in the loudest of rooms,
he knew he would always be able to hear the harmonious tone and laughter of y/n l/n.
"yes, something like that,"
she said with a coy look that was enough to make his heart skip several beats.
he found it so unexpected,
yet still so winsome,
that he found a draw to someone just after complaining of the matter prior to his trip here.
"i don't mean to be so blunt but...but i don't think i can leave here without saying so: you're beautiful."
"you really think so?"
y/n asked with raised eyebrows,
a smirk pulling at those painted lips spencer adored.
"i do. hand to heart."
"well, thank you, spencer. i think you're quite easy on the eyes yourself."
y/n began to ring penelope out,
the girls eyes darting between spencer and y/n in a moment of growing curiosity.
spencer hid his smile,
for the sake of y/n's pride,
and only nodded to acknowledge penelope's stare.
spencer began to leave;
also leaving his fortuned find of infatuation behind,
but he couldn't find the strength to pick his feet up and walk away from y/n.
should he ever have it his way,
spencer would spend hours beneath y/n's gaze in hopes of her heart racing much like his does,
the perfumed scent she wore so proudly humming into his lungs,
where it would rest till the end of its days.
the uniqueness in which y/n wore so proudly inspired spencer.
he knew if he ever stood a fighting chance with someone so lovely and divine,
he would have to prove his worth to her.
"can i take you to dinner sometime?"
"i thought you'd never ask,"
y/n replied with a smile so pure and full of life,
he nearly fell faint at the sight.
spencer and y/n exchanged looks once more,
grinning at one another and feeling the promise of a fruitful future fall into place.
spencer reid walked out of the store feeling a bit taller.
he finally had something worth feeling passionate towards in his grasp,
and he would never take it for granted so long as he lived.
y/n and him would grow to find affections in one another that were so deep,
they once wondered how they existed without this fervent love.
it was as though two halves of one soul had finally found their way back to one another.
it was a love poets spend decades wishing to feel as their muse;
but blessed y/n and spencer had found it in the peak of their lifetime.
