"Hey Stephen.." I whisper. Stephen is still holding me tight.

"Yeah, Dorothea?" He asks with a soft smile.

"I want to leave. I want to run away and never come back here."

"I know."

"And I want to go...with you."

Stephen's eyes grow wide and he sits up. I do too.

"What?"

"Let's run away together! I know I haven't known you long but..."

"Yes."

"What?"

"Yes, I'll run away with you. I've wanted this since I found about about you and John. I'll want this for ever and evermore. I want you. I want to protect you and I never want you to feel pain like this ever again. I know you're 19 and I'm 23 and you're married and it's not to me, but I love you."

I leaned in and kissed him passionately. Until we couldn't breathe. We decided. We're leaving. I'm finally breaking free. I smiled at the thought. I was going to tell John tomorrow when he comes back.

I hear John open the door to the house. I don't rush to greet him. Instead I sit in the kitchen.

"Dorothea! We've gone over this! Meet me at the door!" He yells.

"No." I reply.

He rushes to the kitchen.

"You can't say no to me I'm your husband!" He huffs.

"I don't want you to be. Not anymore!" I reply, preparing for the worst.

"WHAT I AM NOT GETTING A DIVORCE HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND IM YOUR HUSBAND AND I WILL NEVER SIGN THE DIVORCE PAPERS!"

"TOO BAD BECAUSE ITS EITHER THAT OR I WILL GET AN ANULLMENT DONT TEST ME!"

"IF YOU DO ILL BURN THIS HOUSE TO THE GROUND!"

"IM LEAVING SO I DONT CARE!"

"NO YOU ARE NOT LEAVING!"

He jerks his elbow back and hits the candle burning on the counter. He grabs my wrists.

"YOULL NEVER LEAVE ME!"

The fire spreads across the counter and doesn't stop.

"LET ME GO!"

"NO!"

"STEPHEN!!" I yell.

Stephen comes rushing in with the police and firefighters. The fire fighters put out the fire, the police handcuff John and Stephen grabs me and takes me out of the house. I kiss him but I can barely breath. The fumes were very strong. He puts me down and lets me breath. We sit without talking for what feels like hours. I finally feel better and I kiss him again. He smiles.

"I told him." I say.

"That's good." He replies.

"I'm leaving him."

"You're so strong, I love you!" He smiles.

I grab my notebook that I kept in my pocket and start writing.

How's one to know?
I'd meet you where the spirit meets the bones
In a faith forgotten land
In from the snow
Your touch brought forth an incandescent glow
Tarnished but so grand

And the old widow goes to the stone every day
But I don't, I just sit here and wait
Grieving for the living

Oh, goddamn
My pain fits in the palm of your freezing hand
Taking mine, but it's been promised to another
Oh, I can't
Stop you putting roots in my dreamland
My house of stone, your ivy grows
And now I'm covered in you

I wish to know
The fatal flaw that makes you long to be
Magnificently cursed
He's in the room
Your opal eyes are all I wish to see
He wants what's only yours

Oh, goddamn
My pain fits in the palm of your freezing hand
Taking mine, but it's been promised to another
Oh, I can't
Stop you putting roots in my dreamland
My house of stone, your ivy grows
And now I'm covered

Clover blooms in the fields
Spring breaks loose, the time is near
What would he do if he found us out?
Crescent moon, coast is clear
Spring breaks loose, but so does fear
He's gonna burn this house to the ground

How's one to know?
I'd live and die for moments that we stole
On begged and borrowed time
So tell me to run
Or dare to sit and watch what we'll become
And drink my husband's wine

Oh, goddamn
My pain fits in the palm of your freezing hand
Taking mine, but it's been promised to another
Oh, I can't
Stop you putting roots in my dreamland
My house of stone, your ivy grows
And now I'm covered in you
And I'm covered in you

So yeah, it's a fire
It's a goddamn blaze in the dark
And you started it
You started it
So yeah, it's a war
It's the goddamn fight of my life
And you started it
You started it

Oh, I can't
Stop you putting roots in my dreamland
My house of stone, your ivy grows
And now I'm covered
In you
In you
Now I'm covered in you
In you

THE END
