It was a cool evening in London. It was a Sunday, and Dr.Jekyll was hosting his annual dinner party. All the servants were lined up against the wall, watching the rich diners laugh and have a good time, and waited to be of assistance. Y/n, a maid, loomed over the crowd, looking for the doctor. "He's there, ms.L/n." Poole whispered. "He's always chattering and making good conversation with the people. Listen for where the laughter is the loudest." She scanned the room and put her hand to her ear, listening carefully.

There, by the fireplace, was the tall, well-mannered gent. He was practically perfect in every way. Men wanted to be him. He was rich, intelligent, he could get along with almost anyone, but he wasn't married. Yet. There were rumors floating around the mansion about Dr.Jekyll being engaged, or in an arranged marriage with Sir Danver Carew's daughter, Emma Carew, and each time it sent shock waves into Y/n's heart, and it made her want to faint.

There came a knock on the door, and Y/n quickly rushed over to get it, it was better than just standing around waiting, and to get a glimpse of the doctor again. Upon opening the door, she was greeted with the sight of an older fancy bloke, and a young petite looking woman. "Welcome. Do you have your invitation?"

"Oh, yes, we do!" The woman opened her hand purse, taking out the white envelope and handing it to the maid. She opened it, seeing the name that was written upon it. 'The Carews.' "Y-yes, thank you, ma'am. Enjoy the party." The two nodded with cheerful smiles and walked in while two other servants took their coats. Dr.Jekyll had always gone to their household parties, but they had never come here until now. It was Y/n's first time seeing Emma in person. She was elegant, rich, and very beautiful.

Dr.Jekyll's eyes switched to the two entering guests and left the conversing group to head over and properly welcome them. Y/n stood there, hands folded together, watching. "Welcome, welcome!" The doctor said warmly. "Ah, Henry! It's always a delight to see you!" Danvers shook Dr.Jekyll's hand, the two exchanging familiar smiles. "I see you've brought Ms.Emma along too." He'd say a little charmingly, causing Emma to giggle.

Dr.Jekyll extended his hand out to Emma, which she gladly took, and he positioned a kiss on her hand. Y/n knew it was the usual way men greeted women but watching it made her heart quiver with envy and sorrow. Y/n stepped away, her eyes still wanting to catch a glimpse of her master. Lucky enough, Henry's eyes caught her gaze as she walked by. They felt like arrows shooting straight into Y/n's heart, and she quickly returned back to her spot by Poole.

"I know how you feel about the master, Ms.L/n." Poole said. "Come, let's go to the kitchen, we'll hear each other better." Y/n complied and followed the older man into said room. "You're feelings are radiant." He commented. "I could see it from a mile away." Y/n sighed, gripping her arms. "I-i know...It's painful how obvious it is..." "I don't want to ruin your dreams or anything, but...The possibility of the two of you being together is almost 0 to none."

'Oh, if only Poole knew the truth' Y/n thought. "I know that. It might just be a phase...It'll pass, like many other things." She weakly smiled, trying to convince him to let her go back out to the living room. He glared at her, suspiciously, but eventually gave in with a sigh. "If you say so. I don't want to see you hurt, Ms.L/n." "I won't be, I promise you." She'd grip his hands reassuringly, the older man looking at her with soft eyes.

"I will take your word for it. Let's head back, we don't wanna worry our colleagues." Y/n nodded, following him back out, but halfway out she took the corridor to the right, leading upstairs to an overview of the living room. Nobody had lit the lamps up there, so Y/n had a good shadow to stay hidden in from the diners. But that didn't stop Henry's keen eyes. He'd locked gazes with her again, causing her to step back a little into the corridor. Henry's gaze softened.
