Laying on her bed, Mary'a mind was full of thoughts. But at the same time, she felt empty. Like a void. like a dark, miserable, useless, stupid void.

Why did she want to take part in the official match with Kaede Manyuda in the first place? She could've just took a month at most to pay off the fifty million yen she owed after the gamble that made her a house pet. And yet she still took part in the gamble with a member of the student council, leaving her drowning in more debt.

For the first time in her life, many didn't know what to do. Completely. She just stared at the ceiling, feeling every single sorrowful second pass by excruciatingly slow. And in every single second, another stream of regret flooded through her body- just adding to the already heavy weight on her chest.

"I'll have to get up eventually," Mary thought before sitting up with a sigh. She glanced at the clock. She had been sitting there for six hours. Absolutely spectacular.

She felt very lightheaded but stood up properly, glaring dispassionately at the black and white book with her name plastered across it. Oddly, she hasn't read a single page of it. As soon as she saw the life plan on her school desk, she ran to the student council office. She roughly sat herself down on the floor and held the life plan with her chilly hands, took a deep breath, and opened the first page.

Right after reading the first page, Mary dropped the book in disbelief and frantically stood up. her eyes widened and her lightheadedness suddenly disappeared. "No, no, no," she kept repeating, pacing around her cold room with palms digging into the roots of her hair. Shaking her head, she picked up the thin book just to make sure her imagination wasn't playing tricks on her.

Mary went out her door and ran as fast as she could to her academy, grasping the life plan tightly in her hands. She finally made it in front of the student council office and frantically slammed the doors open.

"i- saotome!" Sayaka Igarashi exclaimed. "The school is closed!"

"do I look like I fucking care?! where's the president?" "Saotome! vulgar language will not be condoned-"

"it's alright, Sayaka. I'll take care of her," echoed the voice of kirari momobami, who seemed to appear out of nowhere. Sayaka looked as if she was going to say something, but stopped herself before stepping back with a disappointed look on her face. "Sit down. what brings you back so early?"

mary angrily sat on the couch opposite kirari. "oh, where are my manners. Sayaka, get us some tea, please. yes, I prefer Dilmah."

After a brief pause, the secretary walked over to them and carefully placed a wooden tea tray on the glass table in between kirari and mary.

"What the hell is this?" Mary said, aggressively showing the first page of the life plan to Kirari. "What is there to be confused about?" "I- everything? h-how did this even happen?"

"I'm not sure what you mean," Kirari replied, taking a sip of the bold Ceylon tea. "D-do you not see what I'm concerned about? it says I'm supposed to marry Yumeko Jabami!"

Kirari carefully put her intricate teacup back on the table. She leaned back on the couch, crossing her legs. "And? you are to marry Jabami in three years. It's exactly what it says, Mary. What are you concerned about? Do you want children, perhaps? I could arrange that for you-"

"That's not the problem," Mary interrupted in a stern tone. "I- I can't marry Yumeko."

"Why is that?" kirari tsked, slightly tilting her head. Mary stayed silent, her anger gradually fading away and being overcome by sorrow.

Her pulse quickened, unable to answer the question while Kirari simply sat there as she stared grimly at mary's figure.

"How did you get Yumeko to agree to this...?" Mary asked instead, ignoring the president's previous question. Kirari smiled. "She's a house pet too, Mary. Her debt increased drastically after losing in a gamble against me. She didn't tell you?"

"Ah, judging by the look on your face, I don't believe she told you about our lovely gamble. you see, Yumeko's forty million yen debt increased by twenty million. the poor thing was so confident that she was going to win but suffered a terrible loss in return," she paused to take a sip of tea.

"We saw the similarities of both of your situations since you both are unable to pay your large amounts of debt and assigned to a life plan. We made a last-minute decision to completely rewrite both of your life plans and put you two together. It seemed like an interesting idea."

"An interesting idea...?" Mary mumbled under her breath, a laugh threatening to escape her lips. "You're making me marry Yumeko because it's an interesting idea?!"

"Well, yes. consider yourself lucky, Mary. I'm sure you'll have an amazing life with Yumeko. Now, please excuse yourself from my office if you aren't even going to drink my tea."
