"You got everything you need for the funeral tomorrow?" Geo asked me and I shrugged as we pulled up to my grandma's house, where I've been staying all week just to be with her

"It's just a funeral geovonni. I don't need much"

"I'm just asking"

"Well thank you for asking but I think I'm good" I told him while I looked out the window just staring at my grandmas house

That red light the funeral home put in the yard bothered me all week like they might as well put our business out on a billboard or some shit. In the yard were cars of a couple of my family members on my momma's side and I constantly questioned why they were here. The past four days were the most I've seen any of these people in the past four years since my daddy died and it was annoying because I hated fake love more than anything

They were also the reason why I chose to continue to go to school all week, not missing a single day. Everybody, including Geo, thought I was crazy for still going but I needed to stay busy to keep my mind away from all of his sad shit going on because I'm really tired of being sad. I had my cry Monday when I found out and I wanted to leave it at that

"You'on wanna get out do you"

"I'm getting out" I replied, still looking out the window and saw two of my cousins, one 5 and one 6, run outside playing around the cars

"You see them kids right there.. last time I saw them they were barely 1 and 2. Now they talk, run, eat and aggravate the shit out of you"

Geo laughed as he looked and shook his head "they ain that bad. The lil girl asked me yesterday was I your boyfriend"

"Should've told her to mind her damn business"

Again, he laughed

"Same Ol Ziggy"

"Why wouldn't I be the same ol Ziggy?"

"Yo momma just died"

"And?" I finally looked at him, but not for long "all jokes aside when I think about it, I loss my momma four years ago. Now it's just the body catching up with the mind"

I then continued to look out the window again before sighing and grabbed my bookbag before opening the door and Geo got out as well. The little girl stopped playing to look at me and smiled

"Hey Ziggy. Hey Ziggy's boyfriend"

"Hey" I plainly responded before heading into the house, pulling Geo behind me by his hand. I heard talking and laughing as I walked in. One of my aunts looked at me and Geo before smiling

"Hey! How was school?"

"Good" I simply answered

"Zakia, Geovonni.. y'all want something to eat?" My grandma asked, sitting on the chair between her oldest son that she ain seen in years and one of her nieces. In her lap was a photo album and when I looked at the picture she was on, it was the one I took with both of my parents on my first day of high school.

"No ma'am. I'm good"

"Well if y'all get hungry it's food in the kitchen"

"Alright" I replied before heading out of the living room and upstairs with Geo behind me. My mom's room door was closed, the way it's been since Monday. I just quickly glanced at it before going to the room next door where I've been sleeping

The first thing I did was kick my shoes off and lay on the bed

"You ain gone talk to yo people downstairs?"
