Chapter 32: Your Results

You rode in relative silence on the way back to headquarters. You were too ashamed at your behavior to hold a conversation, though Nifa did try to reassure you. You could only smile sadly and give one word answers. 

It wasn't just shame though, you were also disheartened by the fact that you couldn't communicate with the other titan. You knew people were counting on you; hoping you'd be able to control them. After all, how many lives could you save if you can could? 

You headed to your room upon arrival. You just needed some time to yourself before you met with the others again. However, just before made it there you bumped into Eren. 

"Oh, hi [Y/n]," He greeted you with a smile "How did you test go today? Mine was great, I was able to transform..." His words trailed off when he noticed your face

"What happened?" He asked worriedly 

"I failed," you began to cry  "I wasn't able to control the new titan and nearly died when it tried to eat me. If not for Dai I'd be dead."

"Wait, Dai saved you?"

"Yeah, he punched the other in the jaw before it could swallow me," 

"That's incredible [Y/n]! I don't think you failed at all. I mean you got a titan to save you!"

"I mean I guess so, but I didn't ask him too. He just did it on his own," 

"Okay, so maybe you can't order titans to do things, but if you could get them to protect you then they'd fight off other titans in the process. Have you talked to Hanji about it? I'm sure they'd have more insight than I do"

"No, I just got back."

"Well I'm heading over to see them now, how about you come with me?" 

"Okay," 

You started to walk with Eren, wiping your face with your hands. "Oh here, use this," he handed you a napkin. You thank him kindly. "I know all of this is overwhelming, believe me I understand the pressure you're under,"

"Yeah, it's like humanity's freedom rests on our shoulders,"

"But hey, at least we have each other," He pulled you to a stop "[Y/n], I know you don't feel the same way about me as I do for you. But I wanted you to know that that doesn't change anything between us. I'll always be here for you," 

You smile at his words before pulling him into a hug "I'll always be there for you too,"

 Hanji was beyond ecstatic at the results of your test. Almost immediately they came up with more experiments for you, one of which involved bringing Dai with you outside the walls. They wanted to see Dai would continue to defend you even when he had the freedom to do other things. This time Hanji's squad would accompany you, both for observation but also for protection of both you and Dai. 

You didn't like the idea of putting Dai in danger like that. As far as titan's go, he really wasn't all that big, with a total height of 4 meters. The only reason he was able to beat the other titan was because it was tied down. Hanji assured you that no harm would come to him and in the end you had no choice but to trust them. 

After the plan was laid out, you were excused. You made your way to Levi's quarters to get your things for the night. You didn't know if he knew of the Commander's orders but you hoped he did and that'd he'd be okay with it. As much as you wanted to continue your time with Levi, you didn't want to get him or yourself into trouble by disobeying orders.
