Trigger warning

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mulberry drive , 11pm , Halloween night. Me and my girlfriend walked down the crowded street and found humour in the little children dressed as witches and wizards.
There was a chill in the air and despite the gathered crowd the atmosphere was unusually calm. I see Mr and Mrs. Jones dressed in their ridiculous costumes as Adam and Eve. They're barely wearing any clothes.
"They're such creeps" Annabelle whispered in my ear and we both made an exaggerated shudder .
There was little to no entertainment except the haunted house so we decided to give it a try.
There was a clown at the entrance and we paid before entering the building.
We were surrounded  by vintage furniture, the White painted walls were tinted brown and smeared with fake blood.
An object dropped from the ceiling. "bang!" it hit the floor with a thud.
Anabelle shrieked before clutching on to my arm. I couldn't help but laugh when I saw what it was.
It was a life sized horse except dark crimson blood coated it's neck and it's eyes were a lifeless pearl white.
After walking around for a while we came upon a narrow hallway. It was dimly lit with old rusty pipes running along the walls. The chipped paint reminded me of burnt skin and the air smelt like gasoline.
"Remind me why we decided to come here" Anabelle asked in a scared voice but still managed to sound annoyed.
"Because it's fun" I whispered.
"Why are we whispering?" she replied and we both started laughing at our silliness.
That moment was short lived. The lights flickered  and at first I wasn't scared; until the room became permanently consumed by darkness and her hand wasn't in mine's  anymore.
I tried to find her in the dark and called out for her but the mocking silence laughed at my quivering voice.
She wasn't in any real danger but she tends to always forget that and get closer and closer to a panic attack. I couldn't help but worry.
A shrill scream pierced the air and echoed off the walls.
"Annabelle!" I called out during  my panic. My heart was beating a thousand miles per hour. A shiver creeped up my spine and I drew short hollow breathes.
"Annabelle!" I cried before the lights turned back on and I sighed in relief as I saw her standing at the end of the hall.
"You really got me this time..." I began to say before realising that it wasn't my Annabelle.
