She sat on the edge of her bed. Eliza couldn't help but bounce her feet impatiently and grew more nervous just by the thought of him.

His perfectly warm smile, black curly hair and flawless dark skin.

A blush tinted her cheeks when she thought of more off limits parts of him. She couldn't help but stare whenever he came over to fix something she had intentionally broken. Last time it was the bathroom faucet.

She was standing by the door and her father was inspecting Edgar's work.

He had forgotten to turn the water supply off and when Edgar removed the faucet his white shirt got soaked. She couldn't help but laugh when he instinctively tried stopping the water by covering it with his hand and that only made it worse.

Her father cast a scrutinizing gaze at her. "Go help your mother in the garden." he said in a displeased grumble.

"As if you ain't got nothing better to do." she replied before leaving the two.

Her father's only reaction was a frown of irritation . He had become accustomed to her witty ways.

It was frustrating to live the life she had. Her  father was a duke. They could never be together because their family and society would never accept them.

All she could have was secret visits in the dark. They would recite poems to eachother under the heavenly glow of the moon.

She glanced at the clock. It's time.

She quickly put on her cloak before climbing down the ladder she had prepared earlier that night.

Her feet touched the ground and she gave her surroundings a quick scan before running towards the woods where she wouldn't be visible to wandering eyes.

Fallen leaves and twigs crunched beneath her feet. Disturbing the silence made her more nervous of being caught.

She came upon the familiar clearing where he would usually be waiting.

His sad demeanor changed as he saw her and he gave her a big smile as he hugged her back.

She could feel her nerves floating away with the night wind as she felt safe in his arms.

He slowly caressed the small of her back and she looked up at him. He had a peculiar look in his eyes; one that she had never seen before.

He softly graced her cheek with a gentle touch. He was looking at her as if he was seeing her for the first time. As if she was a rose among thorns.

"Eliza, my love" He says in a pained whisper and just like that the sadness returned.

She slightly raised her brows at the sudden change
"What's wrong?"

"You were breathtaking since the day I first saw you on a picnic with your younger siblings. You were cursing Edgar for constantly making his sister cry and baby Elise just wouldn't stop eating the grass. " he says with a soft chuckle at the precious memory.

"That's enough" her father says as he emerged from among the trees.

Edgar took a hesitant step away from her.

She noticed that he wasn't surprised at all.

"What's going on?" she looked between the two with confusion.

"Edgar here.." her father began to say "asked for your hand in marriage. Now before you get too excited we all know there's no way in hell that's going to happen."

She listened to her father's words with a curious gaze towards Edgar who refused to hold eye contact.

Does he have nothing to say?

"This has to stop Eliza" Edgar says in a defeated tone.
