Accident or Suicide? The Supernova Demise of Vincent Friday

The singer, aged 27, did not go gentle into that good night. But why – and who was with him?

On Sunday at dawn, a red LaFerrari swerved off the infamous Mulholland Drive, killing two people as it crashed and burned.

And no, even if that might sound like a scene straight out of a Hollywood flick, I'm not actually talking about David Lynch's cult classic.

I'm talking about real people in a real car and this time, the truth may just be stranger than fiction. In case you haven't been keeping up with the barrage of tweets and thinkpieces, let's review the Facts.

Sunday, 6:30 AM: Singer-songwriter Vincent Friday shares Harvey Dent's iconic quote from The Dark Knight on Twitter. Yeah, you know the one. The quintessential vigilante conundrum that has Bruce Wayne contemplating the righteousness of his Batman hobby.

Reactions to Friday's tweet range from concern for his wellbeing, to unequivocal accusations of murder.

Sunday, 6:40 AM: Laurel Canyon wakes up to a wreck ablaze, 911 calls start pouring in. The LAFD arrive first at the scene, to put out the fire presumably caused by a fuel leak. The LAPD are up next. They find two casualties inside, both burned beyond recognition. Partially surviving registration plates reveal that the vehicle belongs to aforementioned Friday.

This is where fans around the world collectively hold their breaths.

Surely, just because it's his car, it doesn't have to mean he was driving it... right? Right?

Monday, 12:00 PM: Dental records confirm what so many of us have been dreading the past 24 hours. The man sitting behind the wheel had been none other than Vincent Friday himself. His female passenger, however, has yet to be identified.

Her dental records are non-existent and a preliminary search of Friday's Malibu home has yielded no clues as to who the woman might have been. Investigations continue, in hopes that security footage or household staff could eventually provide a much-needed lead.

Now that we're up to speed, it's time for the Theories.

Unverified sources say the woman's body was found horizontally crushed under the dashboard. Which, given Friday's notorious repertoire depicting a variety of vices, has naturally kindled a social-media wildfire that the woman had been performing fellatio on the singer at the time of his death.

So, assuming that's true, it begs the question – did his curious choice of in-car entertainment cause him to lose control of the vehicle? Or did he purposefully drive off the edge?

Considering his well-timed tweet, this author is inclined towards the latter.

One could argue that intense public scrutiny following the death of dancer Odile Proctor during his exclusive Las Vegas show may have driven him to such a drastic decision. Some were trying to get him 'cancelled,' many referred to him as a 'villain'.

Meanwhile, the Vegas inquiry into the safety measures taken to protect the performers is still ongoing. Those findings were due to be reported on this week, but Jun Yang was unavailable for comment on the rumors surrounding that tragic night.

Friday may have either ignored safety warnings to save cash or intentionally sabotaged the rigging to make an even bigger 'splash' with his show. Allegedly. That doesn't change the fact that his Swan Song soundtrack album skyrocketed to the top of the charts following Odette Proctor's death of a cocaine overdose five years ago.

She was only 21.

Now Twitter is abuzz with countless investigations into Friday's doings and dealings over the years that would put the FBI to shame.

He is blamed for enabling Odette's cocaine addiction, if not downright causing it.

Newly emerging pictures of him and one of the Proctor twins have given rise to suspicions that he may have broken Jun and Odile up before the ballerina's passing.

The dubious degree of premeditating his own death has led others to theorize that he simply wanted to join the 27 Club in style.

Just to name a few.

Whatever the case, Vincent Friday did not die an ordinary star. He extinguished himself in a supernova explosion and mere mortals like us can only marvel at the aftermath.

And wonder whether Odin has let him into Valhalla.

Did he seriously just KILL ANOTHER GIRL just so he could die while getting head?!?!...

|

This cannot be happening... I still can't believe it...

|

I'd only just seen him perform in Vegas last month...

|

Yo, somebody call my man Jun and tell him justice has been served...

|

VINCE NOOOO...

|

Where *is* Jun Yang? I feel like he's fallen off the face of the Earth since Odile died. And I was really looking forward to them getting back together. Shit. Poor guy.
